Nintendo’s legendary ape is swinging onto the Switch 2 on July 17, andDonkey Kong Bananzaisshaking things up with a large world where players can smash their way through nearly any obstacle as DK searches for the fabled Golden Bananas alongside a younger Pauline.

Earlier this week, Nintendo hosted a specialDonkey Kong BananzaDirect that shed further light on the upcoming title’s plot and gameplay. In addition to confirming that the Odd Rockis indeed Pauline, this livestream highlighted DK’s new attacks, which can be used to damage enemies and navigate the many different landscapes of the underground. Players will have plenty of incentive to explore their surroundings inDonkey Kong Bananza, as the game features a wide assortment of collectibles that unlock special bonuses.

These bonuses were one of the subjects of this week’sDonkey Kong BananzaNintendo Direct. As he navigates the underground, DK will find Banandium Chips, which are scattered around the game world and can be traded for Banandium Gems at the Chip Exchange. Meanwhile, players can collect gold nuggets to spend on items at the Stuff Shop, or uncover Fossils to trade for unlockable outfits at the Style Shop.

These outfits can be equipped in the Closet, where players can create their own custom looks for DK and Pauline by combining certain pants, hats, and even fur colors. Each article of clothing comes with its own special benefit tohelp DK inDonkey Kong Bananza, so players are encouraged to mix, match, and experiment to see what perks a particular level or scenario.

Players can also uncover maps that can lead them to more Banandium Gems or Fossils while smashing throughDonkey Kong Bananza’s destructible environment. Their location will be marked on the player’s map to make finding them easier, and there is a database for the player to keep track of which Gems or Fossils they have already collected.

Lastly, players can unlock music tracks to listen to while relaxing in a Getaway, which DK can build at certain areas to take a break from his adventure. Sometimes players will find new discs after defeating enemies to get new tracks,including the iconic DK RapfromDonkey Kong 64.
