This article contains very mild spoilers for The Naked GunThe Naked Gunis an excellent return to form for the franchise. Theatrical comedies have been disappearing for a long time, with most films in the genre being relegated to streaming. However,The Naked Gunmay just be the thing to bring audiences back to theaters for a shared laugh with friends and strangers alike.
Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson make for a perfect comedic duo, and the jokes come blazingly fast during the movie’s lean 85-minute runtime. While you may be tempted to leave once the credits start to roll (well, not right away, because there is still one more classic gag to revisit first), you may want to stick around, becauseThe Naked Gunisn’t done making you laugh quite yet.
Does The Naked Gun Have A Post-Credits Scene?
Yes it does, and so much more!
Just like almost every other movie to come out within the last 17 years or so,The Naked Gundoes include a post-credits scene. Unlike what you might see in a movie likeAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, this post-credits scene isn’t teasing any sequels or future franchise installments (though there is always hope for moreNaked Gunmovies). The Naked Gun’spost-credits scene is simply there to pay off a jokefrom earlier in the movie. It’s not entirely necessary to stay for it, but why not get a little bit more fun out of the movie?
Tech billionaire Richard Cane is explaining his evil plan about midway through the film, which involves him and his rich buddies hiding out in a bunker while the rest of the world all fight each other in a feral state caused by the P.L.O.T Device. The bunker would have everything the billionaires need to survive, includingregularly scheduled shows from Weird Al Yankovic, who can never pass up the opportunity to appear in silly comedies like this one.
Of course, Cane’s plan is eventually foiled by Frank Drebin Jr. Unfortunately, it seems like no one remembered to tell Weird Al. In the movie’s post-credits scene, Al hits the stage with his trusty accordion, only to realize that there is no one in the audience. “Oh come on!” Al yells, as he realizes the “evil billionaires” have not made it to the show. That’s about it forThe Naked Gun’s post-credits scene, but there’s plenty of other fun stuff in the credits of the movie to enjoy.
Frank Drebin’s hilarious song about finding love
Over the credits, audiences are treated to another payofffor a line earlier in the movie, when Frank says that he wrote a song about finding love again. He even booked studio time! We get to hear this song as the credits roll, and while the lyrics are hilarious on their own, it’s Frank messing around in the studio space that really sells it. He hits drums and talks about how good they sound. Then he picks up a guitar for the first time ever and plays an excellent little solo (“this is so easy!” he says).
Joke credits sprinkled throughout
Eagle-eyed viewers will notice a few funny credits, including a list of tennis grips among the other grips,a Netflix password, and an eye chart. This is a classic bit of comedy that carries on the tradition of previousNaked Gunmovies, and makes staying through the credits a lot more fun.
