Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed new details surrounding the gameplay forDigimon Story: Time Stranger, including battle systems, Digimon personality types, and player abilities. Announced during February’s PlayStation State of Play livestream,Digimon Story: Time Strangeris the first new game in theDigimon Storyseries sinceDigimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker’s Memorywas released in 2017.
InDigimon Story: Time Stranger, the player assumes the role of an agent of Special Investigation Bureau ADAMAS, a secret organization dedicated to investigating the supernatural. Joined by one of the threepartner Digimon inDigimon Story: Time Stranger, players will travel between Earth’s Tokyo and the Digital World: Iliad to save both worlds from a mysterious entity that defies time itself. The new entry promises over 450 Digimon to encounter, some of which will function as rideable Digimon mounts.
In a PlayStationblog post, Bandai Namco Lead Producer Ryosuke Hara dove into some of the gameplay strategies and skills players will want to familiarize themselves with whenDigimon Story: Time Strangerdrops on October 3. Featuring a turn-based battle system,Digimon Story: Time Strangeris similar toPokemonin that it rewards strategizing each Digimon’s strengths. Each Digimon has an Attribute and an Element, with seven possible attributes and 11 elements, all with their own resistances and weaknesses. Digimon can also have one of 16 possible personality types, all of which influence stat growth, skills, and conditions for Digivolution, which, unlikePokemon,is non-linear.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger Features a Turn-Based Battle System
The Digimon aren’t the only ones with unique abilities: the player character has their own tricks up their sleeves, known as Agent Skills. As players complete ADAMAS missions, they’ll earn points for unlocking Agent Skills with a variety of effects, including stat increases, simplifying Digivolutions requirements, and buffing Digimon with specific personalities, allowing for a number of possible character builds that prioritize certain team compositions. Agents whostrengthen their bond with their Digimoncan also unlock powerful abilities known as Cross Arts, which fuel the agent’s device with the power of their Digimon to turn the tide of battle.
Digimon Story: Time Strangerwill release across all major platforms on October 3. While some gamers might be disappointed thatDigimon Story: Time Strangerwill be locked to 30 FPSon consoles, the new foray into the Digital World after nearly a decade of waiting is an exciting and welcome surprise for longtime fans of theDigimon Storyfranchise.
