Diablo 4Season 9 has been a huge boon for Sorcerer players, with several builds for the class sitting among the season’s best. WhileDiablo 4’s Hydra Sorcereris the star of the show this season, thanks to the new Ophidian Iris unique, it seems that the class is also benefiting from some unintended bugs. With some careful setup, Sorcerer players can quickly find themselves dealing ridiculously high amounts of damage, easily propelling themselves through the 150 tiers of the Pit.
The Sorcerer has been through a lot since the release ofDiablo 4, going from one of the weakest classes in the game to now within the upper echelons of the meta. Throwing a new bug into the mix that allows the Sorcerer to clear the Pit with ease could be the justification some players need to finally play the class during the Sins of the Horadrim season. However, players who want to capitalize on this infinite damage bug should do so sooner rather than later, as it seems like only a matter of time before it gets patched out.
Diablo 4’s Sorcerer Builds Are Currently Broken to the Point of Dealing Near Infinite Damage
Diablo 4’s Enlightenment Key Passive Can Trigger an Insane Amount of Damage
Accessing this damage bug requiresDiablo 4Sorcerer players to have invested in the Enlightenment Key Passive and use theSmoldering Ember Infusion on their Horadric Spell.
Enlightenment (Key Passive)
Typically, theEnlightenment Key Passiveis intended to give players a bonus when they cast different elemental skills consecutively, rewarding players for Sorcerer builds that feature several different elemental skills. However, the Smoldering Ember Infusion seems to have a weird interaction with players who have procc’d Enlightenment, as the Infusion replaces its bonus Fire Damage with whatever the player’s highest Damage Type Bonus is while it’s equipped. While Enlightenment is active, it would be the highest Damage Type Bonus, thus replacing the Damage Bonus received from Smoldering Embers.
The bug occurs when players enter a portal while Enlightenment is active, seemingly triggering a recursive application of this Damage Bonus created by Smoldering Embers. This bonus continues to stack as long as players keep Enlightenment active and re-enter a portal. Doing so multiple times essentially causes the damage bonus to stack repeatedly for as long as the player keeps Enlightenment active, creating a situation where their damage can be increased infinitely as players go through portal after portal.
The ideal place to trigger this bug is in the Pit, since players can go back and forth through a portal between levels repeatedly.
Diablo 4 Season Players Should Take Advantage of This Bug While They Can
As an unintended consequence of this new seasonal power, it’s likely thatDiablo 4’s infinite damage bug will be patched in the near future. Blizzard has a solid track record of squashing bugs that pop up in each new season, so it’s likely that this trick for running the Pit won’t be around for much longer. For players already running aSorcerer build inDiablo 4Season 9, this bug should be quite easy to accomplish since it only requires investment in Enlightenment and having the Smoldering Embers Infusion equipped.
Non-Sorcerer players who want to get in on the action before it’s too late may need to speed through leveling up a new character since it can take some time beforeDiablo 4’s Pit can be unlocked. Regardless of whether players want to take advantage of this bug or not, it’s likely going to throw off the community’s Pit leaderboard until it’s fixed.
