After a false start,Diablo 4Season 9 patch 2.3.1 has been released, and with it come some welcome changes to nearly every class. On top of buffs for eachDiablo 4class, including the ailing Barbarian and Rogue, useful changes to the Forgotten Wisdom Nightmare Dungeon affix have made level farming even quicker after this update. To top things off,Diablo 4players can now participate in a new event tied to one of the game’s simplest activities, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve special attention.
Although players will likely spend most of the time inDiablo 4’s Nightmare Dungeonsdue to their prominence in Season 9’s questline, there is a renewed reason to take a break and explore the overworld of Sanctuary as well. Here, players will be able to tackle Whispers forDiablo 4’s Tree of Whispers to earn Grim Favor that can be turned into the Tree for rewards. While it’s easy enough to complete these Whispers—often even unintentionally—players should focus their attention on actively trying to farm Whispers during the Gift of the Tree event.
Diablo 4’s Whispers Are a High-Value Activity in Season 9, But Players Should Act Fast
Diablo 4’s Gift of the Tree Event Makes Completing Whispers Worth Players' Time
Diablo 4’s Gift of the Tree eventis now in full swing, and players can participate until July 22 to earn bonus caches as rewards when turning in their Grim Favors. While this event may not be as assuming as otherDiablo 4events like Mother’s Blessing or March of the Goblins, it can be especially helpful for players looking to grind for materials and even uniques. New players in particular can benefit from the Gift of the Tree event because the rewards offer useful goodies that can be crucial during the early stages of building a newDiablo 4character.
Typically, when players turn in theirGrim Favors at the Tree of Whispers, they are given the choice between three potential caches they can receive, each emphasizing a different type of equipment as a reward. During the Gift of the Tree event, players will also receive a bonus Chaos Cache regardless of which standard cache they choose. These Chaos Caches are a real wildcard, holding a random assortment of items available in the other reward caches, including the potential for rare unique and mythic pieces of gear.
Players also earn a large amount of XP when turning in their Grim Favors at the Tree of Whispers, making this activity even more worthwhile for those still leveling their seasonal character.
Whispers Are Easy to Farm, But Diablo 4 Players Should Pay Special Attention During the Event
MostDiablo 4players have likely already completed some Whispers without even trying, since they are abundant throughout Sanctuary and require players to complete tasks they are already bound to be doing, such as slaying a certain number of demons in an area. However, casually approaching Whispers may not be enough to fully take advantage of the Gift of the Tree event, so players are better off dedicating a portion of their in-game time to farming Whispers while the event is active. Thankfully, Whispers can be consistently found in several areas at any given time, and active ones display onDiablo 4’s in-game map.
The best place tofarm Whispers is inDiablo 4’s Helltides, where the high monster density makes it easy to complete Whispers that require players to slay enemies in a certain area or collect motes from fallen enemies. One of the best Whispers for players to complete during a Helltide is defeating a Blood Maiden, since doing so grants five Grim Favors. Combining seasonal tasks or Helltides with Whisper farming is an efficient way to earn Grim Favors, and players will want to be more aware of the active Whispers than usual while they are participating in other activities, since the Gift of the Tree event only lasts a limited time.
