Blizzard has revealed several exciting new features and changes coming toDiablo 4Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim, including a new seasonal questline, new unique items, and permanent updates to Nightmare Dungeons for both the Seasonal and Eternal Realms, all launching on July 1.Diablo 4Season 9 also introduces an all-new Battle Pass Reliquary, a bunch of rewards, and more.

Diablo 4launched in 2023, and its first major expansion,Vessel of Hatred, arrived in 2024, introducing the Spiritborn class, a cooperative endgame dungeon, and other major additions. Since then, the game has continued to evolve through seasonal content and major updates: Season 7 brought witchcraft themes, while Season 8 (Belial’s Return) introduced boss powers, Lair Boss activity, and more. Now, Blizzard is gearing up to release Season 9—and while full details will be revealed during the upcomingupdate livestream forDiablo 4Season 9: Sins of the Horadrim on June 27, the developer has already shared some exciting details in advance.

In an extensive blog post, Blizzard revealed several Season 9 features, with one of the highlights being the new seasonal questline called “The Embers Yet Smolder” that takes players to Cerrigar. Here, players will meet new NPCs who send them on a mission to discover and purge blood relics that have fallen into demonic hands. It’s worth noting that to access this new questline, players must first completeDiablo 4’s base game campaignand create a new character on the Seasonal Realm.

Features and Changes Coming to Diablo 4 Season 9 Sins of the Horadrim

Another major feature coming inDiablo 4’s Season 9: Sins of the Horadrimis a new way to combine spells through three key pillars: Catalysts, Infusions, and Arcana. Horadric spells can be linked to the player’s abilities to create explosive combo attacks, allowing them to experiment and come up with their own combinations. Moreover, players can now craft Horadric jewels using Horadric Tomes—which can appear as rewards from completed Strongrooms after reaching Torment 1. These gems provide new effects and powers, or enhance Horadric Spells to make them more powerful.

Additionally, players can now explore Horadric Strongrooms, which the developer describes as micro-dungeons hidden withinDiablo 4’s Nightmare Dungeons. Here, players will encounter new enemies and earn valuable rewards. Season 9 will also introduce a new endgame challenge called Escalating Nightmares, where players will face Astaroth and Amalgam again—though this time the bosses will feature new attack combos.

Starting with Season 9, several major updates to Nightmare Dungeons will become permanent features for all players—even after the season ends. These include revamped dungeon mechanics, Horadric Strongrooms, escalating difficulty chains, and more. The patch will also bring new unique items to earn, as well as new Equipment, Armor, Accessories, Mounts, and Mount Armor bundles in the shop, among many more exciting additions coming for all players on July 1.
