Her death proved to be a pivotal point inDexterand one of the most shocking moments in the show’s history. However, audiences would now like to see Dexter’s wife make a return inDexter: Resurrectionin a moment that would be just as surprising as her death.
Dexter: Resurrection Has Featured Plenty Of Cameos
Rita Would Help Bridge The Gap For Lapsed Fans
Dexter: Resurrectionis looking to push the iconic serial killer’s storyline forward in a fresh manner to ensure the show is compelling to today’s audience. However, given its legacy, there is a need to link things back to the original series, and the show’s first few episodes have done precisely that. There has been no shortage of entertaining cameos so far, from the Trinity Killer toDexter’s iconic rival James Doakes. These scenes have entertained old-school fans and reminded them why they fell in love with the series in the first place, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be any more.
Much like Angel Batista or Harry Morgan, Rita could end up returning in a recurring role, rather than for just a one-off scene, and that would entertain old-school fans. People want to see connections take placebetweenDexter: Resurrectionand the original series, and with Rita, it would make sense and should feel natural. It’s a return that audiences aren’t necessarily expecting, either, which is what would make it even more exciting.
Rita Could Be The Inner Voice Of Harrison Morgan In Dexter: Resurrection
This Would Work As A Parallel To Dexter
Given that Rita is dead, there are only so many ways she could be brought back to the series. However, asDexter: Resurrectionhas proven, no legacy character is being ruled out for a potential return at this stage, whether they’re alive or dead, and that means there’s a genuine possibility of Rita returning. The way that Rita needs to be brought back, if she is going to return, is in the exact same way that Harry Morgan appears in the show, working as the conscience of another character. Harry takes on that role for his son, Dexter, as he taught him about the code that guides how he kills people throughout the franchise. However, Rita could take on the same role for her son, Harrison. This would continue the parallels between Dexter and his son, which have been a focal point ever since Harrison was introduced to the series as a young adult. While Rita would be attempting to take her son away from Dexter, it would open up many great storyline possibilities, including Rita’s reaction to who Dexter truly is. That’s something that people never got in the original series, and would provide an emotional scene if it were done right. Having her appear in the moments that matter most for Harrison seems like an intriguing possibility and would certainly add a lot to his character.
Rita Morgan Would Slot In Perfectly With Her Son’s Ongoing Storyline
The opening episode ofDexter: Resurrectionsaw one murder take place after a brutal fight in a hotel room, asHarrison killed one of the guests, Ryan. Unlike how Dexter acts, this kill takes place in the moment due to the vile act Ryan is trying to commit, but that doesn’t stop parallels between Harrison and his father being created. Harrison showcases that he has the same darkness within him that Dexter does during this moment, not just in the kill, but also in how he disposes of the body. After that, Harrison is tormented by Ryan, as his dead body continuously flashes up to cause nightmares for him, all of which is taking its toll on him mentally.
This is why Rita would slot into the show perfectly right now. With Harrison being tortured by the ghost of his past in the form of Ryan’s battered body flashing up at him, Rita would work well to balance that. IfDexter: Resurrectionteases the idea of Harrison going down a dark path andfollowing in his father’s footsteps, Rita could turn up to try and be the light. She was never anything like Dexter in that regard, as Harrison’s mother was one of the sweetest characters in the original series, always looking to do her best by her family and friends. It would create a brilliant juxtaposition between the guiding lights in Harrison’s life, from his father’s dark passenger to his mother’s lighter, normal lifestyle. Having Rita appear to try to mentor Harrison would ensure that the message was driven into audiences, while also providing another legacy cameo for fans to appreciate. It’s the perfect way for Harrison’s story to be executed, in what could end up being a massive part ofDexter: Resurrection.
