Why Players Shouldn’t Sleep on Destiny 2’s New Graviton Spike Exotic Weapon

As a craftable weapon, thenew Graviton Spike Exotic hand cannon inDestiny 2naturally has a lot of versatility to cater to the players’ preferred playstyle. For example, the Graviton Spike’s Exotic Catalyst upgrades give players the options to improve the weapon’s reload speed or opt for pure damage buffs, among other utilities. Because the weapon has so many of its own customizable upgrades while its base power is relatively high to begin with, this ultimately means that it doesn’t need a highly specialized, niche build to be viable in endgame content.

The Exotic quest to unlock the Graviton Spike,Through the Ages, becomes available after players finish thecampaign from The Edge of Fate expansion.

What Do Graviton Spike’s Exotic Perks Do?

As long as players can consistently land precision hits, get kills, or both, it’s possible to maintain a practically endless loop of the Graviton Spike’s overcharged mechanics, providing increased damage and unique effects. Since these overcharged effects can trigger Subclass verbs, this naturally makes it a powerful weapon in both endgame PvE and competitive PvP meta builds.

Graviton Spike Might Finally Dethrone the Sunshot as the Best Add-Clear Exotic

In PvE, the Graviton Spike excels at add-clear, which is typically what players would want a primary weapon to do in endgame content, Exotic or not, while energy and heavy weapons are mainly used for DPS. However, since the Graviton Spike’s overcharged mechanics aren’t purely a kill-skill, like the famous Sunshot’s Sun Blast Exotic perk is, this arguably makes the Graviton Spike much more flexible than the Sunshot. More specifically, since precision hits can trigger the Graviton Spike’s overcharge mechanics, players don’t have to worry about their kills being stolen to take advantage of the weapon’s full potential.

Precision hits being capable of both fueling and triggering the Graviton Spike’s overcharge mechanics also means that the Graviton Spike can be used as a pseudo-DPS weapon. While not its ideal purpose, this can be useful in a pinch now thatDestiny 2’s Armor 3.0 updatehas removed ammo reserve mods.

Graviton Spike Could be a Surprise Meta Pick in Destiny 2’s Competitive PvP

Not only could Graviton Spike become a breakout Exotic for meta PvE builds, but it also has promising potential to walk a similar path in the PvP meta. Since the Graviton Spike’s overcharged Stasis shots can Freeze enemies, while the overcharged Arc shots can cause an Arc lightning blast, this makes the Graviton Spike proficient at both single-target damage and crowd control. This versatility could ultimately be the Graviton Spike’s secret to dominatingPvP meta builds inDestiny 2, considering that the current meta hand cannons typically specialize in one or the other.
