Bungie has released the patch notes for the massive Edge of Fate update, making major changes to many core systems and making balance-related changes to the currentDestiny 2sandbox. As is the case with most expansion release days, it’s an exciting time to be a fan ofDestiny 2as Episode Heresy has finally come to a close after about 5 months, giving way to a new evolution of the franchise.
Formerly known as Codename Frontiers, the Year of Prophecy aims to be the next phase forDestiny 2. The new year kicks off with the Edge of Fate expansion, which takes players to a new location called Kepler, while introducing a new mystery involving the Nine, a new character named Lodi, and the former Nine Emissary known as Orin the Lost. Alongside the new expansion, players will have a newDestiny 2artifact to level and unlock perksfrom, though on Day 1, it’s likely that they’ll first need to come to terms with all the big changes in the accompanying update.
Over the past few months, Bungie has been slowly revealing many of the changes players will be experiencing once The Edge of Fate arrives. However, with thepatch notesnow live,Destiny 2players can see all of the details prior to the expansion release, including the gear balancing that will be happening. Weapons are seeing plenty of tweaks, while someoverlooked exotics inDestiny 2are also seeing substantial buffsto potentially make them more viable for normal gameplay. Of all the exotic weapons, Hierarchy of Needs is definitely near the top in terms of seeing major improvements.
A newtiering system has also been added toDestiny 2, both for armor and weapons. Players can find different versions of gear, with higher tiers offering better stats and perks. Masterworking has also been reduced from 10 to 5, with infusion costs being based on tier level rather than masterwork level. Not only that, new Edge of Fate weapons also drop with a special mod socket specifically for combat-flair cosmetics like Sweaty Confetti. Using these mods no longer consumes them and is instead simply applied in this slot.
One of the biggest changes to the coreDestiny 2game is with The Portal, a brand-new feature that essentially replaces the original Director menu. The announcement has been met with uncertainty with longtime players, though Bungie intends to position The Portal as a way for all players to quickly find the activities they’re interested in. With new playlists like Solo Ops to pick from, players can also further customize their experience by adding modifiers to increase difficulty as well as the rewards they could potentially earn.
Spire of the Watcher
Updated Stat mods
Armor 2.0 Conversion
Including existing rolls of Exotic armor, will be updated to align with the above changes.
