With The Witness defeated, and the aftermath resolved, a new adventure awaits the Guardians ofDestiny 2. This time, the mysterious entities centered around The Nine are at the forefront of a new adventure sure to bring excitement and mystery to those ready for the challenge.

This is the first of two expansions coming this year forDestiny 2, and it will shake up many core features that all players will have to prepare for. Simple things like how armor stats work and weapons having tiers can be staggering to some. However, there are things all players should know about before going into the expansion that can help give you some insight into what is to come. Here are the best ways to prepare for the Edge of Fate expansion.

How to Prepare for the Edge of Fate Expansion

Farm Armor Pieces with High Mobility

For the Hunters out there, this will inevitably be something you have the upper hand on. However, Titans and Warlocks should make this a priority. With the release of the Edge of Fate expansion, armor stats will be getting a massive overhaul across the board. Some stats will remain similar, while others are being completely replaced with new stats that affect entirely different aspects of your character. Arguably the best example of this is how the Mobility stat is being replaced with a new Weapons stat.

This Weapon stat will now increase weapon reload speed, handling, and damage against minor and major targets.Any armor you currently have that has a high Mobility stat will be replaced with this Weapon stat. With how the new stat system works, tiers of that stat have been completely removed. This makes every single point you invest in that stat worth something, as it will be converted into a respective percentage that is applied to your character. Getting that flat damage boost and improvement to how your weapons feel will become an unquestionable necessity for every build.

With stat tiers removed, you are able to put a stat up to 200 instead of 100. Whenever a single stat passes 100, it becomes enhanced and gains a new ability. For the Weapon stat, this will give ammo drops a higher chance of containing more ammo and increase your damage against bosses. The most integral part of most endgame encounters relies on your ability to do damage to a boss. Since that can now be affected by a stat on your character, making sure you have access to its purest forms can give you the upper hand when going into the new expansion.

Do Not Delete Your Vault (Yet)

With the announcement of weapons having tiers, and with tier five weapons having more potent perk options than even some of the best adept weapons available now, many players have been cleaning through their entire vault and parting ways withgod rolls they have had for years. This is not recommended, at least for now. Players will have to obtain a high-tier god roll weapon before what they already have is considered obsolete.

To compare it to the current state of weapons, a plain weapon that drops randomly when playing would be a tier one weapon, and a fully crafted weapon with enhanced perks sits roughly at tier two or three. Tier five weapons will have enhanced barrels, magazines, up to three enhanced perk options per slot, and even enhanced origin traits. Combine that with unique ornaments and new kill effects, and you are left with loot that is incredibly desirable. This is how weapons will work from this point on, unless something new is added to the system at a later date. Considering this will be the norm, it is understandable to think all the weapons you have now will not be able to compete with these tier 5 versions. However, the introduction of this system does not make a player’s entire vault useless.

With how nuanced weapons can be now, not every single type of weapon is expected to get an amazing tier five version right at the start of Edge of Fate. There might be a strong rapid-fire frame auto rifle at launch, for example, but there might not be a strong adaptive frame. It might take time before there is a definitive best in slot tier five option for every single weapon archetype. Not to mention, despite the potency a tier 5 weapon brings, perk combinations are still the bread and butter of what makes a god weapon. It could be great to get a tier five weapon to drop, but it could be for nothing if its perk combinations are sub-par compared to what it could be.Keep your god rolls as long as you’re able to,since getting perfect tier five weapons of every single archetype is inevitably going to take a long time. Trying to get them while your vault is empty is not recommended in the slightest.

Stock Up on Exotic Engrams

Of all the loot changes coming to this expansion, how new exotic armors are obtained does not seem to be changing. Therefore, havingas many exotic engrams as possibleis the best way to make sure you may access them as soon as possible. Considering how much more armor stats will matter, it might take a few tries before you get the exact stat layout you are looking for on these pieces of gear.

Before doing so, you will have to level up The Cryptarch in order to focus on the new exotic armor pieces. Luckily, still having exotic engrams to decrypt early is one of the best ways to get that level as high as possible. The Cryptarch must be at level 17 in order to focus on the new armor pieces, but focusing on the pieces you already have will grant even more levels when compared to simply decrypting the engrams. Not only will this let you get the new armor pieces faster, but it gives you the chance to get a more refined stat roll on anexotic piece of armor that you still plan to use in your buildsthroughout the new expansion.

Prep Bounties

This step is more of a priority for players looking to do the day one raid when it releases.Prepping bounites beforehandis a great way toincrease your character’s level at an accelerated ratewhen compared to just playing through new content. If you do choose to do this, it has been confirmed that any bounties tied to any episode released within the last year will be going away come the release of Edge of Fate. That includes completed bounties on your character that you may be saving. So, when prepping,do not prioritize bounties from vendors tied to the episodes.

That said, weekly bounties from destinations or vendors in the tower will grant the most xp. Daily bounties are by no means mandatory to make this more effective, since they do not reward nearly as much XP when compared to weeklies. However, they can provide an extra boost if you are looking for that. When doing this,do not overflow your entire bounty page with things waiting to be claimed. If you do, you will not have any room for the new quests and such being added in Edge of Fate.

Take a Break

If you find yourself not in desperate need of the things listed in this guide, or if you manage to complete them with time to spare before release, take some time away from the game before you inevitably sink in many more hours once the expansion officially releases. Not many things will be imperative to an upcoming reset, unless you are still looking for a specific weapon froma nightfall rotationor Trials of Osiris. If that is not a priority for you, and you feel ready for the content to come, putting some space between you and the game is recommended. That way, you do not risk going into the expansion burnt out on the game, and instead you’ll be ready to be the best Guardian you’re able to be.
