Once upon a time, Gyomei Himejima used to be a monk who looked after orphaned kids. Despite struggling with poverty himself, he prioritized the future of the children in his care and sacrificed everything to keep them happy. But his life crumbled in front of his eyes when a demon attacked the temple where he used to live and killed all the kids, except for a girl named Sayo.
If the master had not helped me, I would have been executed. After that, I became a deeply distrustful person. And, of course, I didn’t even believe in you. No matter how righteous people usually are, they reveal their true selves in times of disaster. But you did not run away. You did not look away. You did not lie. You were straightforward and resolute. It sounds simple but not many people are like that. You are a special child. I have seen many people with the eyes of my heart, so if I say this, it is true. Everyone is uneasy about the future. From now on, I will help you so that you do not take the wrong path.
Himejima, who had never fought before, was so enraged that his instincts took over and he kept beating the demon until the next morning. This incident revealed that Gyomei was no ordinary person andKagaya Ubuyashiki ensured that he joinedthe Demon Slayer Corps. Himejima was shocked by the incident and it completely changed him as a person. After joining the Corps, he put himself through relentless training andsoon became the Stone Hashira.

Why is Gyomei Considered the Greatest of His Generation?
Gyomei Himejima’s hard work and dedication earned him the respect of his peers and Kagaya Ubuyashiki. Even after becoming a Hashira, he remained just as disciplined and determined to make the world a better place by exterminating all demons. Over the years, he saved countless people,including Shinobu and Kanae, who went on to become the Insect and Flower Hashira respectively.
Gyomei’s experience of fighting tense battles and unparalleled dedication to the Demon Slayer Corps is the reason why Kagaya entrusted himwith the plan to ambush Muzan, once he had surprised the Demon King by setting off a bomb. Although Kibustuji’s regeneration was frighteningly quick, the Stone Hashira’s Kusarigamajutsu techniques took him by surprise and he was beheaded before he could even respond. No other demon slayer other than Himejima would have been able to pull it off, which speaks volumes about his powers and fighting prowess.
As the battle shifts to the Infinity Castle, Gyomei will feel emboldened to finally confront Muzan’s underlings. He is not the kind of swordsman to take a step back irrespective of the challenge ahead of him. Things will be made more exciting by the fact that he will find Upper Moon One violently attacking his comrades. Even before he awakens the mysterious Demon Slayer Mark, Himejima will fight Kokushibo on equal ground, proving that he is unlike any other from the Taisho era.
In fact,the Upper Moon Onewill be so impressed by his incredible fighting prowess that he will claim that he hasn’t met any swordsmen of his caliber in the last three hundred years. Even Gyomei’s physical strength will stand out and the demon will argue that Stone Hashira has trained his body past its physical limits. His incredible pace of improvement will feel on par with demons to Kokushibo, which is incredible praise coming from someone of his stature.

It is noteworthy that most of the compliments received by Himejima will be about him withoutthe Demon Slayer Mark. Considering how impressed, surprised, and shocked Kokushibo will be during their battle, it would not be far-fetched to infer that he is perhaps the greatest Hashira of his generation.
Gyomei’s achievements are further solidified by the fact that he is rated so highly even though he cannot even see. If he were not blind, he might just have been impossible to stop. Irrespective of how the battle will unfold, as the Infinity Castle arc is finally animated, it will leave no doubt about Himejima’s greatness.
