It’s about time for Inosuke’s story to be heard and seen, not just Zenitsu and Tanjiro’s pain in the final arc.

As revealed in Demon Slayer chapter 160, Inosuke Hashibira’s mother, Kotoha, was in an abusive relationship with her unnamed husband. Even Kotoha’s mother-in-law put her and Inosuke in a difficult situation, which forced them to run away from home. In other words, Kotoha gathered all the courage in her body to take the infant Inosuke away from harm to the best of her abilities.
Unfortunately, Inosuke only had vague memories of his past. All he knows is that wild boars raised him. He didn’t remember anything about his mother at alluntil Shinobu’s caring attitude, including her use of “pinky promise,” had a strange effect on him. His interaction with Shinobu allowed him to recall bits and pieces of memories of his real mother.

The tragic fate that dawned on Inosuke and his mother continued even after they ran away from home 15 years ago. With no one to run to and no safe place to be, Inosuke’s mother eventually finds a temporary shelter at the Eternal Paradise Cult, where all the members worship theupper moon two, Douma, completely unaware of his hidden identity.
Kotoha’s pretty face as well as her beautiful voice left a lasting impression on Douma. Not only did it convince the powerful demon to take Kotoha and Inosuke in, but it also convinced him not to devour her. Douma even planned on having Kotoha by her side until she passed away naturally, but things always take a sudden and dangerous turn inDemon Slayer.

Eventually, Kotoha learnedabout Douma’s twisted sideand everything turned for the worst. She could not accept Douma’s explanations, no matter how hard the upper moon two tried to defend himself and justify his actions. Just like that, Kotoha fled with Inosuke, away from the Eternal Paradise temple, until Douma caught up to her. But before Douma could sink his teeth into Inosuke, Kotoha had already thrown her poor child off the cliff.
Inosuke’s Face Is Forever Etched in Douma’s Memory
As withmany upper moon demons, Douma also has a very good memory. All he needs to do is literally put his finger into his head and adjust his brain to clearly remember meaningful events in the past. This includes Kotoha’s delicate and soft features, which he instantly remembers from Inosuke’s face.
Inosuke wears a boar mask inDemon Slayerfor many reasons. First, it’s a major part of his identity, and second, it’s to prevent him from being underestimated or laughed at for his beautiful face, much like how Urokodaki hides his benevolent face. So, when Douma steals his boar mask and reveals his face, it’ll only be a matter of time before Inosuke goes on a rampage. With Shinobu and Kotoha’s murderer in front of him, Inosuke’s only option is to kill and exact vengeance.
