Muichiro Tokito’s Innovative Use of Mist Breathing

Tokito Defeated Gyokko By Inventing a New Form of Mist Breathing

Muichiro Tokito learned Mist Breathing from an unknown cultivator. However, unlike other swordsmen, he wasn’t satisfied with just being good at it. He put his blood, sweat, and tears intomastering the swordmanship styleand became the best in his generation.

Even the strongest attacks are pointless if they don’t hit. ~ Muichiro Tokito to Gyokko

Tokito understands Mist Breathing well enough to go beyond its typical applications and invent new ways of using its potential. An impressive glimpse of his extraordinary talent is seen during his battlewith Upper Rank Five, Gyokko. He had been completely outsmarted and outmatched during the battle until Muichiro got the Demon Slayer Mark.

Tokito had always been proficient in using six forms of Mist Breathing. But driven by a ruthless desire to crush Gyokko, he invented a new form. Known as the Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds, it allows Tokito to disorient his enemies by moving slowly before escaping at blinding speeds just when the target feels comfortable with attacking. This creates frustration, which can then be exploited.

Muichiro uses Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds to make Gyokko think that he is covered in a thick layer of mist, creating openings that ended up being deadly for the Upper Moon. Tokito’s innovative use of Mist Breathing is proof of his exceptional talent. Most demon slayers would have struggledto brave the injuries that he had, but Muichiro not only displayed extraordinary resilience but also was intelligent enough to invent a new form altogether.

Infinity Castle Will Reveal Mist Breathing’s Full Potential

Muichiro Tokito Can Invent a New Form Against Kokushibo

In the Infinity Castle, Muichiro Tokito faces Upper Rank One, Kokushibo. Although he is the only Hashira of the current generation to have defeated an Upper Moon alone, Kokushibo is unlike any demons he has ever faced. The Mist Hashira will have to deal with his overwhelming strength, speed, and swordsmanship that can outclass any demon slayer.

In the face of such a challenge, Tokito will be pushed to adapt in circumstances he has not experienced before. Although his fight against Gyokko became one-sided once he used Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds, it won’t workthe same way against Kokushibo. Therefore, Muichiro will be pushed to not only evolve each Form, but also invent a new one if the situation becomes more desperate.

Mist Breathing primarily focuses on speed, and against someone like the Upper Moon One, it can be critical. Muichiro is lucky that he won’t be fighting him alone. This will allow him to attack strategically and use a different form of the Mist Breathing based on the openings created by his comrades.

Furthermore, against Gyokko, Muichiro was usingthe Demon Slayer Markfor the first time. But now, he has trained relentlessly for weeks and understands his powers much better. The Demon Slayer Mark will make Mist Breathing far more effective. Fifth Form: Sea of Clouds and Haze, along with Fourth Form: Shifting Flow Slash, will most likely be the most effective techniques that Tokito will rely on.

Remember that boiling anger. […] Even if I lose my memories, my body will remember that anger that will not leave me until I die. It’s why I trained so hard that I vomited blood to destroy demons. And more… to eradicate them! ~ Muichiro Tokito

But as mentioned earlier, Muichiro’s greatest strength will be his ability to use Mist Breathing innovatively. Kokushibo is extremely dangerous, and defeating him will require something special. Tokito will most likely outdo himself as he steps into the Infinity Castleto take on the Upper Moon. Fans can expect to see Mist Breathing utilized like never before. New techniques and forms are possible, but only time will tell how far Muichiro Tokito is willing to go to take down the Upper Rank One.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy’s first installment is scheduled to be released in the United States onSeptember 12, 2025.
