Doma’s Frightening Aura

Upper Moon Two Comes Off as a Ruthless Monster in His Appearances so Far

Doma made his first appearance in a flashback whenGyutaro and Daki were fighting membersof the Demon Slayer Corps in the Entertainment District. As human beings, the brother-sister duo had lived a rough life. Ostracized by society and left for dead, Gyutaro and Daki were on the verge of dying after enduring a life of humiliation and abuse. In that dark moment, they accidentally crossed paths with Doma. The Upper Moon’s first appearance was enough to send a shiver down anyone’s spine.

When you die, you just become nothing. You just stop feeling anything. Your heart stops, and your brain stops. You rot and return to the earth. As long as you are a living creature, it is unavoidable.

Demon Slayer

Doma was eating a woman whose decapitated head was in one of his arms. There was a huge smile on his face as if he were relishing every moment of the grotesque act. Despite the poor state Gyutaro and Daki were in, he saw something in the siblings and felt that they might just be good enough to not only become demons buteven join the Twelve Kizuki.

While brief, Doma’s debut appearance was no less than a horrible nightmare and painted a horrifying picture of his true nature. He was also present for the Upper Moon meeting, following whichhe was attacked by Akaza. Despite the violence, Doma seemed calm and even playful. However, it was evident from the body language of other demons that no one trusted him. But what makes Doma so feared that even members of Twelve Kizuki don’t trust him?

Doma’s Origins and the Roots of His Psychopathy

Upper Moon Two Was Horrible, Even When He Was a Human Being

As mentioned earlier, not all demons were evilbefore they joined Muzan’s forces. Some were simply harassed all their lives or were ostracized by society for no fault of their own. Such demons tend to get a lot of sympathy whenever their backstories are finally revealed. What makes Doma so horrifying even for demons is the fact that he used to be unbelievably cruel and psychopathic even when he was a human.

From a young age, Doma experienced special treatment. He became the leader of the Eternal Paradise Faith during his formative years and enjoyed a life of luxury and comfort. For the world, Doma was a charismatic and confident leader who could understand the people’s troubles and offer help. But deep down,he knew that his façade was just a cover for the darknessin his heart.

Doma has been unable to process emotions from a young age and never truly understood human beings. His detachment, even from people close to him, was so extreme that all relationships meant nothing to him. When he was still young, his mother violently killed his father in front of his eyes and then proceeded to commit suicide. Any person, regardless of age, would have been traumatized by such an experience, but for Doma, it was all just a nuisance. Interestingly, he was instead concerned that the room felt too stuffy because of all the blood that had been spilled.

Doma’s clinical apathy made him a perfect candidate to be a demon, and whenhe eventually took Muzan’s blood, he rose through the ranks quite rapidly. He continued to lead the Eternal Paradise Faith cult and used his position to hunt vulnerable followers. As he faces Shinobu Kocho in the Infinity Castle, his connection with the Insect Hashira will be revealed, which will shed more light on the extent of his moral depravity.

Doma might not be the strongest demon in existence, but when it comes to ruthless cruelty and emotional detachment, he appears to be far more dangerous than Muzan or Kokushibo.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy’s first installment is scheduled to be released in the United States onSeptember 12, 2025.
