Demon Slayerfans can expect a wave of information about the new movie soon, especially after it premieres in Japanese theaters. While fans are excited forDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, they are also a bit sad that the anime is preparing to bid farewell, since the story will reach its conclusion with the trilogy.
This led many to wonder: is there a way for the production team to eventually deliver more anime content? The author of the series, Koyoharu Gotoge, hasn’t written any new material after concluding the originalDemon Slayermanga. However, there are ways to continue producing anime content for the franchise, at least for a while, but it is unlikely to be a continuation of the story, as many fans would expect.
The Infinity Castle Trilogy Will Bring the Story to an End
TheDemon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arcmovie trilogy will release the first movie within a few weeks in Japan, and it will be the first chapter of the grand finale of the story.Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini suggested in an interviewthat the trilogy would also cover the Sunrise Countdown arc—fans were wondering whether the trilogy would cover only the Infinity Castle arc or would also adapt the Sunrise Countdown since the announcement of the movie.
With that, it’s been confirmed thatthe movies will deliver the finale of the series, so the bar is set high for the trilogy. The first two movies are expected to adapt the Demon Slayer Corps storming into Muzan’s lair, the Infinity Castle, and the final movie should cover the final battle against Muzan and Demon King Tanjiro, the most powerful demon introduced in the original manga.
What to Expect from Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc
The first movie will probably cover only a part of the invasion of the Infinity Castle, and it should conclude with the death of Akaza, showing Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka finally avenging what Akaza did to Rengoku in the Mugen Train Arc. A good hint that this will be the climax of the movie is that the marketing has heavily relied on promoting theMugen Trainmovie.
Sony, Ufotable, Toho, and other major companies are heavily investing in this movie, and many executives have already claimed that theyexpect the film to surpassMugen Train’s box office, which is currently the highest-grossing anime movie worldwide. With so many expectations, fans won’t settle for anything less than peak animation with breathtaking battles, better than they have ever seen in any otherDemon Slayerseason or movie. Additionally, fans can expect many touching scenes remembering Rengoku, so audiences should also prepare to shed some tears.
Could There Be More Demon Slayer Anime After the Movies?
The original manga will be fully adapted into anime once the final movie is released in a few years, but that doesn’t mean that Aniplex and Ufotable won’t produce moreDemon Slayercontent. One possibility would be adapting the movies into one or two TV seasons, as they have previously done withMugen Train. While this would make sense considering how the production team has focused on TV material, fans would likely see it as “milking” the franchise. However, there are other options to produce totally new anime content. A sequel doesn’t seem likely, since the demons are all gone by the end of the series, but it wouldn’t be impossible, given that Muzan’s demon form is an outcome of science. A new drug could turn people into demons, created by someone with goals similar to Muzan’s.
However, there are better options. The first would be adapting side stories like theDemon Slayer Gaiden: Stories of Water and Flamemanga, showing Giyu Tomioka’s and Kyojuro Rengoku’s backstories, but there is also a good chance that they will use this manga as source material to produce scenes for the first movie, since Rengoku and Giyu will be central characters in this movie. Another option, which would leave fans hyped, isproducing a prequel anime series, telling eithermore of Muzan’s origin story or focusing on the legendary Yoriichi, which could last for one or two seasons. This would likely be the best way for the anime to deliver new content that expands on the original story, satisfying fans eager for moreDemon Slayeranime content.
When Will the First Movie Be Released?
The first movie in theDemon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arctrilogy will be released in Japan on July 11, 2025. The movie will hit theaters globally starting in August, premiering in the US and Canada on June 04, 2025. While Crunchyroll hasn’t announced it, fans expect the streaming service to add the movie to its catalog a few months after its theatrical run. There is no information about the release window of the subsequent movies, but Purini once hinted that they have a good idea of when the movies will debut. Rumors suggest that the production will release a movie every two years, so the release windows would be 2027 and 2029, respectively.
