Serving as a spin-off to the wildly popular 2015 role-playing indie gameUndertalefrom developer Toby Fox,Deltarunetells the story of a human teenager named Kris who lives in a town inhabited by peaceful monsters. Rather than a proper sequel, the story ofDeltaruneoccurs in parallel to its predecessor, allowing a number of familiar faces to make an appearance in the follow-up toUndertale.
UnlikeUndertale,Deltaruneis being released episodically, with the first chapter making its debut in October 2018 and the most recent entries — Chapters 3 and 4 — both dropping on June 5 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement trailer for the Switch 2 version of the game included a number of reveals, including a special feature exclusive to theSwitch 2 version ofDeltarunethat makes use of the Joy-Cons' mouse mode. Although Fox did not reveal when players could expect Chapter 5 to drop, he secretly hid the information in a place where dedicated fans were sure to find it.

Although no specific date has been announced, the reveal for Chapter 5 comes much sooner than previous chapters, which have been spread out over the last few years.Deltarunecreator Fox has kept fans in the loop via regular updates on social media. In a previous update posted in October 2024, Fox assured fans that he has beenworking on Chapter 5 ofDeltarune"every day" and that his team has made the next installment their main focus.
