With one hundred characters to date (or befriend, or hate) inDate Everything,it’s easy to simply brush aside the characters who grant their ending and SPECS points on the first conversation. One such character is Dorian the Door, one of the first characters the player meets, who is used to introduceDate Everything’sSPECS system and multiple endings. However, Dorian is in fact one of the deepest and most complex characters in the game. Spending a little extra time with Dorian - or hunting down some of his more hidden forms - is well-worth the players' time.

Dorian May Seem Like A Tutorial, But He’s So Much More

As soon as players gain access to the Dateviator glasses at the beginning ofDate Everything, they are introduced to Dorian the Door, portrayed byFinal Fantasy 16’sBen Starr. Dorian immediately befriends the player, granting them an automatic Friendship ending and the accompanying five SPECS points. With so many more characters to get to know, it’s tempting to leave Dorian be and simply stop there - but players who go searching for more will be well-rewarded.

There are no fewer than 17 forms of Dorian hidden around the house, each with different conversation topics and some sporting unique outfits. They range from the obvious - the front door, back door, and doors leading to each of the main rooms - to the well-hidden, such as a miniscule, large-headed Tiny Dorian on the wall of the kitchen. There’s even alocked Attic Dorianwho players must figure out to unlock if they want to find the Dateables concealed within that room.

Developers Ray Chase and Robbie Daymond revealed that, despite his seeming simplicity, Dorian was one of the most difficult characters to write for because of his large number of variations. “He’s Ray’s favorite and least favorite,” Daymond admitted in aconversation with Game Rantprior to the game’s release.

Beneath Dorian’s Stoic Exterior Lurks A Hidden Wild Side

Dorian’s “default” personality is reminiscent of a bouncer. He’s friendly and helpful - he’ll direct players towards some of themore hidden Dateablesin each room he protects - but he’s rather stoic and direct, and may seem difficult to get to know. It can be tempting to give up, when each conversation with Dorian seems like nothing more than an information dump. However, this handsome, sturdy hunk is indeed willing to let loose for those who put in the effort.

Hidden in an out-of-the-way closet is none other than Trap Dorian, a Dorian like no other. Completely shirtless and covered in tattoos, this Dorian is open and flirty in a way the others are not, and admits that he doesn’t mind friendship having “a few benefits” once in a while.Date Everythingplayers took to social media such asX, formerly Twitter, to discuss the attractiveness of Trap Dorian, calling him a “thirst trap” or “daddy,” naming him the game’s most attractive character, and admitting that this single encounter convinced them to seek out the door’s well-hidden love ending rather than contenting themselves with friendship.

Like every other Dateable in the game, Dorian can indeed be romanced (and can even be convinced to hate the player, although achieving that ending takes some effort.) While he admits to preferring friendship to love, his romantic ending is quite sweet in an understated way, and he does admit how much he has truly grown to care for the player as they sought out his different versions around the house. Getting to know Dorian and seeing that there’s more to him than a mere information dispenser is one ofDate Everything’sgreatest triumphs, an impressive feat in an already top-notch game that delivers stellar writing across its massive cast of Dateables.
