The Dark Truth Behind the Cursed House in Byakuja Village
Evil Eye, Kito Family, and the Mongolian Death Worm
Jin has been living in his home in Byakuja Town for a while now. As mentioned earlier, he always had a gut feeling that some mysterious force haunted the property. It is interesting that the Enjojis never bought the house and were allowed to live thererent-free by the Kito family. Although their actions may seem generous, they have been hiding a horrifying truth that could potentially put hundreds of lives in danger.
It turns out that Jin’s family was not the only family that had lived in the Cursed House. Technically, the house was built on top of many other houses over the decades. At some point in the past, it was discovered that aMongolian Death Worm or the Tsuchinokolived in the volcano in Byakuja Town. The villagers came to believe that if the Tsuchinoko was left hungry, the volcano would somehow become active, putting the lives of people at risk. This belief ended up becoming the reason for a cruel ritual in which children were offered to the Mongolian Death Worm for the safety of the town.
Over time, the Kito family took the responsibility on their shoulders and continued the tradition of ritualistic sacrifice. At the heart of this cruel practice was the house where children were once imprisoned away from the eyes of society for months, before they met their horrific end. Among them was also a kid who would desperately look out of the small window in the room to watch kids his age playing in the distance. He desperately wanted to join them, but like others, he was also killed cruelly to appease the Tsuchinoko.
That child ended up becoming a spirit. Although he initially was kind and gentle, things slowly took a dark turn. At some point, the Kito family built a house where he was once imprisoned. Families would move into the new home, probably lured by the Kitos offer to let them stay rent-free, and become victims of the Mongolian Death Worm’s Psychic Suicidal Waves. These dangerous waves would push adults in the family to take their own lives, while the children were left behind. The Kito family would then imprison such children to be fed to the Tsuchinoko.
The spirit tried to befriend many of these kids, but always ended up scaring them instead. He saw one child after another, meeting the same brutal end as him. Over time, he was filled with an immense hatred for humanity and transformed into thevengeful yokai named the Evil Eye. However, since he had no vessel, the murders in the Cursed House continued, as many families were destroyed. Jin’s parents also almost became the victims of Tsuchinoko’s Psychic Suicidal Waves, but he intervened at the right time to save them.
Unfortunately, the Evil Eye ended up tricking Enjojiinto sympathizing with him and turned him into his vessel, gaining access to a physical body. The Cursed House only became more chaotic in light of these events, while the years of horrors committed on its grounds continued unchecked. Now that Okarun and his friends fight the Mongolian Death Worm and the Evil Eye together, they have the chance to turn the fate of Byakuja Village and save it from the curse that has haunted the village for decades.
