Dandadan’simaginative premise beautifully blendsthe supernatural and rom-com genres to recount a captivating tale. At its core, the story revolves around two teenagers delving into bizarre conspiracy theories and urban legends. Their adventures bring them closer, eventually helping them form a heartwarming bond that fans can’t help but root for.
While the deuteragonist is expected to remain still quite relevant to the story, one character is all set to steal the limelight from them. Dandadan’s season 2 trailer also hints at the same, so without further ado, let’s look at how the narrative has already pivoted in this direction in the last few episodes of the previous season. Based on that, it will be easier to explain how the dynamics withinMomo’s group might changeand what will its overall impact be on the upcoming installment.
A Natural Shift in the Narrative
Jin’s Debut Has Changed the Dynamics of Momo’s Group
Momo and Okarun have been butting headswith each other ever since they first met. Their conflicting worldviews brought them together and helped them find a common ground. While there are other characters who have become close to them over time, they have not had the same impact as Jiji Enjoji. Jin arrived at the Ayase household when he felt hopeless about fighting back against the malevolent spirit in his house. When a few spirit mediums took their own lives after trying an exorcism, he was recommended to seek Seiko’s help.
Back in grade school, I made fun of you Momo. Looking back now, I seriously regret it. ~ Jin Enjoji to Momo Ayase
Jin’s bond with Momois special since he is her childhood friend and also her first crush. His return to her life has made Okarun quite concerned and jealous. This has become quite obvious ever since he saw Taro propose to Hana and finally realized what he truly felt for Momo. Jiji’s reunion with Momo already has had far-reaching consequences but things are only going to get more exciting from here on.
The last few episodes of Dandadan’s season 2 focused primarily on Jin’s bond with Momo and its influence on Okarun. While it’s unclear if Enjoji has any feelings for Ayase, his closeness to her alone has pushed Ken to introspect and come to terms with his feelings. However, Jiji’sdebut has not only influenced Okarun, but it has also pushed Momo to come out of her comfort zone and volunteer to visit Dajia Town to perform an exorcism that has already led to several suicides.
Dandadan Season 2 Will Put the Spotlight on Jiji
Jin Will Be the Focus of the Cursed House Arc and Evil Eye Arc
Dandadan’s season 1 ended on a cliffhanger with Momo, Okarun, and Jiji’s fate hanging in the balance asthe creepy Kito familytargets them. This is especially strange because Jin’s landlords had allowed the Enjoji family to live in the house rent-free. What’s even more bizarre is that they have been keeping an eye on Jiji’s family and now they have turned their attention to his friend’s too.
While some might not see these events as the effect of the narrative shifting its focus on Jin, it is already in process. The mysterious spirit haunting the Enjoji family is only visible to Jiji. It’s almost as if it wants something from him only. Even when Momo inspected the Enjoji household, she found nothing out of the ordinary. The spirit seems to be quite strong and is able to manipulate the spirit mediums that dare to exorcise him.
The Cursed House arc will primarily focus on this strange bond between Jin and the sinister spirit. If the Dandadan season 2 trailer is to be believed, he willget possessed by the Yokaiwho also seems to have a deep-rooted hatred for humanity and wants to exterminate all human beings. What’s even more puzzling is the fact that Enjoji seems to have a lot of sympathy for the spirit despite his violent behavior. It’s almost as if he knows and understands something about the Yokai that no one else does.
While it remains to be seen what secrets he has buried in his heart, the Cursed House arcwill surely put a lot of focus on Enjoji and his struggle with the sinister spirit. But Jin’s role in Dandadan season 2 will only become more prominent after the conclusion of this storyline as the Evil Eye arc will go into more depth about the eponymous spirit and Jin. Enjoji will find himself struggling with his feelings of sympathy for the Yokai and reclaiming his body. But eventually separating himself from theclutches of the Evil Eyewill turn out to be a far more complicated affair than just overcoming his inner conflict. However, Jiji’s compassion will in some sense turn out to be a blessing too.
That idiot! I warned him, you can’t trust someone with the Evil Eye. ~ Turbo Granny
Dandadan season 2 will primarily revolve around the Cursed House arc, Evil Eye arc, and Kaiju arc. While he will still be relevant in the last arc, Enjoji is set to be the primary focus in the other two arcs, to the point that he might get as much screen time or, in some cases, even more than the deuteragonist. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing for the series as it will help fans understand Jiji better and add more depth to his character. With his hilarious antics and surprisingly compassionate personality, Jin Enjoji is all set to earn a place in the hearts of Dandadan fans in season 2.
