What is the Mongolian Death Worm?

The Great Snake From Jiji’s Village

Mongolian Death Worm’s origins are shrouded in mystery. But during the feudal period, it was discovered tobe living in Enjoji’s village. The enormous worm primarily lived in the volcano, which, according to the local legends, became active when Tsuchinoko was hungry. The fear of an imminent catastrophe pushed people in the village to take matters into their own hands, and they started offering a child to appease the Mongolian Death Worm.

The child sacrifices soon became a ritual in the village as it appeared to keep the volcano inactive. For over two centuries, countless children were offered to the Tsuchinoko. Over time, the ritual became a local legend, but the Kito family diligently followed it. One of those sacrifices was directly relatedto the birth of the Evil Eye, a vindictive yokai that wants to slaughter all humans. Meanwhile, the Mongolian Death Worm kept getting stronger with time as it consumed more people.

Can Okarun Defeat the Tsuchinoko?

Okarun is lucky to have gainedthe powers of Turbo Granny, a dangerous spirit that once haunted the people of Japan before fusing with the Earthbound spirit in Shono City. She used to be ruthless, and her powers are so unique that most yokai appear to have some respect for her. Although Ken has been able to use them to his advantage and defeat powerful spirits and aliens in the past, Turbo Granny seems to feel that he is yet to use her abilities to their full potential.

Now, Okarun faces his biggest challenge yet. The Mongolian Death Worm is not only enormous but also possesses powers that make it difficult to fight back against. One of them almost pushed Ken to take his own life, and if it wasn’t for Jiji, he might have died already. The Tsuchinoko uses Suicidal Psychic Waves that can manipulate any person to commit suicide. It works extremely efficiently against human beings, but yokais appear to be immune to it.

If Okarun was fighting the Mongolian Death Worm, he could have potentially died even before the fight started. Luckily, Evil Eye eventually blocked the effects of the Suicidal Psychic Waves and saved him. Later, when Ken finally got back to his senses and started fighting back against the Tsuchinoko, he beheaded the worm with a single strike. His attack looked magnificent until he realized that it did not create much damage. The Mongolian Death Worm is also gifted with regenerative powers, and since it can survive a beheading, it could be assumed that it is extremely difficult to put it down.

In addition to these terrifying powers, the Tsuchinoko can also create venom and use it efficiently against its adversaries. It is also capable of Electrokinesis and Phlegm production, both of which have many applications and make it extremely tricky to defeat it.As Okarun faces the worm, he will not only have to be at his best but also become more creative by discovering new powers that he has yet to use.

However, he is lucky that the Evil Eye is also fighting the Mongolian Death Worm and has already done some damage.Momo is also expected to help him fightthe gigantic worm. If the battle was truly one-on-one, Okarun’s probability of success would have gone down significantly. The Suicidal Psychic Waves alone would have almost taken him out. Had he somehow survived that, Electrokinesis and Phlegm would have worked together quite efficiently to make his life miserable.

The Tsuchinoko would have healed from most fatal injuries because of his regenerative powers, and in a battle of endurance, would have had the upper hand. So it could be argued that it is highly unlikely that Okarun would have defeated the Mongolian Death Worm if he were alone.
