During an earnings call in May 2024, CD Projekt Red announced that it had officially ended all development onCyberpunk 2077. According to a chart provided by the company, none of the employees at CDPR were working on the game anymore, as most of them had moved on to other projects likeThe Witcher4and Project Orion,Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming sequel. Many fans weren’t surprised by this news at the time because, prior to this announcement, the last major update forCyberpunk 2077had been released nearly six months ago. Since CDPR had already added tons of new features to the game in the years since its debut, it made sense that the company would want to deprioritize support for the title.
Contrary to the statements it made, however, CD Projekt Red seemingly changed its mind and released yetanother major update forCyberpunk 2077at the end of 2024, right in time for the game’s fourth anniversary. This update, which was titled Patch 2.2, was developed in collaboration with support studio Virtuos, and it added a bunch of new cosmetic features to the game, like an improved photo mode and extra character customization options. As if the reveal of this update wasn’t surprising enough, CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that a new patch forCyberpunk 2077is already in development, and it’s scheduled to come out on June 26.

CD Projekt Red Has Shared Very Little Information About Cyberpunk 2077’s Next Update
To celebrateCyberpunk 2077’s launch on Nintendo Switch 2, CD Projekt Red hosted a livestream on its official YouTube channel, and during this event, it announced the next update for the game, named Patch 2.3. Although CDPR didn’t reveal any concrete information about the patch and what it would contain, the announcement sent theCyberpunkcommunity into a frenzy, with many expressing excitement over the potential features that could be added in the new update. The modding community ofCyberpunk 2077, however, might not have been as enthused by the news.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Editionwas released as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This is the first time that CD Projekt Red has ever released a game in conjunction with a console’s debut.
Updates Often Cause Compatibility Issues With Script-Based Mods
If there’s one thing that’s bound to happen with major updates to video games, it’s the disruption of mod support. Script-based mods tend to be the most prone to failure, since they directly change the code of the game. Meanwhile, texture packs and mods that only add new models aren’t broken by updates as easily.
CDPR Should Release an Official Mod Toolkit for Cyberpunk 2077
As great as it is that CD Projekt Red is still supportingCyberpunk 2077, mod creators probably aren’t going to be happy about needing to update most of their mods after Patch 2.3 comes out. Although this won’t completely fix the problem at hand, it would be nice if CD Projekt Red made it easier for modders to create and update their mods by releasing a mod toolkit for the game. Considering that CD Projekt Red recently addedofficial mod support toThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunton PC, this isn’t outside the realm of possibility.
