Sloclap’s first sports title,Rematch, does not support crossplay on day one as many had hoped, but the studio has emphasized that it is a priority for devs moving forward. The online multiplayer soccer sim seems like a natural fit for crossplay functionality, and Sloclap did hope to enable it at launch, but things didn’t end up that way. While this has left some fans disappointed, the team behindRematchhas assured them that the much-requested feature is coming.

There was a lot of excitement behind theSifudeveloper breaking into the sports genre. It also helped thatRematchgot a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, but the inability to play with friends on a different platform tamed the hype for some. While it’s still unclear when exactly crossplay will come to the title, Sloclap has offered some more insight into what to expect in the next bit.

Sloclap apologized for the lack of crossplay support in a June 19blog poston the officialRematchwebsite. According to the post, Sloclap “did [its] utmost to include crossplay at launch” but ran into unexpected technical issues that set it back. While Sloclap’s previous work onSifuandAbsolverinspired some elements ofRematch’s gameplay, it is the studio’s first crossplay title, so those older games didn’t leave it with the experience of what it takes to make the feature work. Still, the developers say they now see that they should’ve communicated the issue earlier, apologizing for the disappointment and frustration that followed.

Sloclap Apologizes for Rematch’s Lack of Crossplay and Details Future Update Plans

The blog post went on to explain what Sloclap has in store forRematch. Getting crossplay up and running is the team’s “absolute highest priority,” but the devs are also working on fixes for lag and performance issues, server synchronization, and a few bugs, including one that freezes the game after a goal. There’s no timeline for when players can expect these patches for now, but Sloclap says these are areas of “immediate focus.” There are also some new features and game modes further down the pipeline, such asRematchimplementing an offline mode with AI teammates in 2026, but these are less pressing than the bug fixes and optimizations.

Rematchisn’t the first game to encounter some difficulty with crossplay. TheElder Scrolls Onlineteam is looking into making crossplay possible, but has explained how it may be challenging, as some of the underlying technology needs to change. Given that Sloclap has been working on the feature since before launch, though, the wait for it to come toRematchmay not be too long, especially with devs prioritizing it now.
