Summary

It’s not a stretch to say that Merge Tactics is a completely different mini-game set inClash Royale. This is a unique experience that doesn’t share the same core gameplay as the main game, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. The biggest selling point about Merge Tactics is that it is quite unpredictable.

A player on the verge of elimination can all of a sudden come back and win the match, because luck is a crucial factor in Merge Tactics. However, players can only benefit from luck if they know which troops perform better on the battlefield. At the end of the day, only the player who invests their points in the right cards will have the highest chance of victory.

Clash Royale Champions Ranked - Skeleton King

8Skeleton King

Skeleton King might not have a high hit speed, but the fact that every kill adds a Skeleton minion to the battlefield makes it a valuable unit. Aside from dealing more damage to the enemy troops, having more units on the map will also distract ranged damage dealers from primary units, hence increasing their survivability.

The 5-Elixir cost of Skeleton King makes it difficult to get it to a three-star merge, but even at two-star, it can perform pretty well. So, if a player gets this card from the shop earlier in the game, they will have a higher chance of merging later.

Executioner - Clash Royale

Traits: Ace, Thrower

Executioner is a powerful back-line damage dealer with a medium range. The good thing aboutExecutioneris that he can target more than one enemy as long as they are aligned behind each other in the line of his axe.

Executioner doesn’t have any specific abilities, but his damage output greatly increases after merging into a two-star, and three-star literally makes him an unstoppable support unit. If the player manages to have all Thrower troops on the battlefield, Executioner’s range will increase by one extra row, making it even deadlier for the opponent’s back-line troops.

Princess - Clash Royale

Traits: Noble, Ranger

Despite being fragile against incoming damage, Princess is one of the most annoying ranged troops inMerge Tactics. She can stand in the second farthest line of the battlefield and still target any Hex on the map. Not only do her shots deal damage to the targeted Hex, but they also have a 2-Hex damage radius, making any adjacent troop take damage as well.

While not as costly as Archer Queen, Princess is a great option for two-star merging. It’s slightly better than Executioner due to her longer range and wider target radius, but Executioner’s survivability is higher, especially in close-quarter combat.

Prince - Clash Royale

Traits: Noble, Brawler

On his own, Prince is not a great option, but he proves his value through teamwork. When a player has more than 4 troops on the team, a Prince can significantly help with outnumbering the opponent for a short duration.

There is a passive ability for Prince that allows it to knock back the tankiest enemy troop as soon as the battle begins. This also applies a brief stun on the targeted enemy, which means it will be removed from the initial fight for a few seconds, giving the player more chances of wiping out the other frontline troops.

Goblin Machine - Clash Royale

Prince has a slow hit speed, and that makes him weak earlier in the game. But building a tanky army around Prince is strongly recommended.

Traits: Goblin, Juggernaut

Goblin Machine is like a more advanced version of Prince that comes with a similar ability. Unlike Prince, the damage output from Goblin Machine isn’t high, but this card is quite tanky, which helps it survive for a longer duration.

Goblin Machine can launch a rocket and target any random enemy on the map. The rocket applies some damage, but more importantly, stuns the target for a short duration. Merging the Goblin Machine increases the number of rockets it can launch. At two-star, he can target two enemies simultaneously, while at three-star, he shoots three rockets.

Clash Royale Champions Ranked - Golden Knight

The only downside is that rockets are not launched immediately after the game begins. Goblin Machine needs to survive the initial fights to be able to launch its rockets.

Traits: Noble, Assassin

Most of the tanky troops in Merge Tactics come either with slow hit speed or weak damage output, but Golden Knight finds a perfect balance between delivering a fast hit speed and a big chunk of health bar.

Golden Knight is worth every Elixir point spent on it. Even at the base level, Golden Knight can be a force to be reckoned with. His ability is activated once he scores a kill. The ability allows Golden Knight to dash towards the next target, dealing dash damage and reaching the target almost instantly.

Royal Ghost - Clash Royale

If the player manages to get allAssassintroops, the Golden Knight will jump immediately to the backline of the enemy at the beginning of the match, slaughtering the opponent’s ranged troops.

2Royal Ghost

Royal Ghost’s unbelievably powerful ability makes him a top candidate for a nerf in the near future. Royal Ghost isn’t just strong, but rather overpowered. The unit’s ability allows it to deal damage while invisible, and when it gets invisible, troops targeting Royal Ghost get distracted and find another target. This lifts all the attention from Royal Ghost while he continues to deal damage.

However, the main problem is not the nature of the ability but how quickly it gets activated. Royal Ghost’s invisibility is triggered after he lands three hits. But after his invisibility is over, he gets invisible for every single regular hit. This means Royal Ghost lands more hits during invisibility than it does during normal phase, which makes it just unstoppable. Only Valkyrie can deal with Royal Ghost, and that’s only when there is a troop next to Royal Ghost.

Clash Royale Champions Ranked - Archer Queen'

Traits: Clan, Avenger

Archer Queenis a master of clutch in Merge Tactics. She can always turn the tide of the battle single-handedly, thanks to her extremely powerful invisibility. It seems like Supercell is really having a problem with balancing the invisibility in Merge Tactics, as every unit with this particular ability is quite powerful.

While Archer Queen’s invisibility is not activated as frequently as Royal Ghost’s, every merge allows her to target one more enemy simultaneously. So, even in a 1v2 or 1v3 situation, Archer Queen can still be quite deadly to enemies and wipe them all while invisible.

Also, the Avenger trait helps Archer Queen significantly, as her damage output is doubled when she is the only survivor on the map from the Avenger team. So, this makes her invisibility even more fruitful.
