Summary

Capcom took the world by storm by finally unveiling their next project, which wasn’t another remake as some fans theorized, but a brand-new title set after the most recentResident Eviltitle,Village,as well as introducing a new character to the franchise in the form of Alyssa Ashcroft’s daughter, Grace.

This seems to dispel the rumors of Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine returning in this title, as neither of them was featured in the trailer, despite most fans thinking they should return, given how important Raccoon City is to both of them. Since this game looks to be taking the franchise in a fresh new direction, perhaps it is best that some fresh faces are introduced rather than bringing back famed legacy characters.

6Rosemary Winters

Unfortunately, the Timeline Is too Early for Rosemary’s Return

The Winters saga took the franchise in a bold new direction after the polarizingResident Evil 6, ditching the cooperative gameplay aspect andfocus on combat, returning the series to its horror roots (though there are arguments to be made that this started withRevelations). The new character, Ethan, was not a special agent or bio-terrorist soldier, and instead was an ordinary man thrust into the extraordinary circumstances, which continued on for a second game.

The subsequent DLC ofVillageput his daughter, now grown-up, into the role of the main character, featuring the guiding voice of her late father, and supernatural powers. Many fans wondered if this was the beginning of Rosemary’s saga, and perhaps she would star in a full-fledged game. That is not to be the case, at least with Requiem, as she would only be 6 years old during these events. As such, it goes without saying that Rosemary shouldn’t return to the franchise just yet, but maybe fans will have the chance to check back in with her in the future.

5Sheva Alomar

Though She Is Deserving of Another Game, Requiem Is Not the Right Time

Despite only having a grand total of one role inResident Evil, appearing in the firstco-op gamein the series, Sheva still charmed many fans with her cool nature, personality, and how well she worked with Chris. Since her debut, many fans have been hoping to see her return in one way or another, but she has yet to make her way back into the franchise, despite being one of the agents in the fight against bioterrorism.

This is likely due to the fact that she is a BSAA operative in the African branch, so it is quite unlikely she will receive any overseas missions, and it is even more unlikely Resident Evil will make its way back over to that part of the world, barring aResident Evil 5remake, of course. As such, it looks like Sheva will have to miss the particularResident Evilouting, but hopefully, fans can meet up with her again soon.

4Ashley Graham

Even With Rumors of Leon’s Return, Ashley Has No Place in Requiem

Even though Grace has been unveiled as the playable protagonist ofRequiem, there are still rumors circulating that Leon could appear as another playable protagonist, dividing the gameplay between the two. As such, there might be fans hoping some characters that have been part of Leon’s past stories, such asResident Evil 4’s Ashley Graham, might also return to lend a hand, especially since a certain voice-line hinted she might follow in his footsteps.

But even then, her inclusion would feel a little forced rather than someone who might naturally return to the ruins of Raccoon City, and as such, it is probably for the best that Ashley doesn’t make a reappearance in this particular title.

3Ada Wong

Unless Leon Appears, Ada’s Prescence Is Doubtful

This duplicitous spyhas sneaked her way into the hearts of many fans, and it is clear to say why. Cool, suave, and a certified badass, Ada’s appearances in the series have been few and brief, but every second of her screentime just proved why she has such a sizable legion of fans, with Leon being among them. It might just be the case that the feeling is mutual, as she has saved his butt on more than one occasion.

Originally due to return inResident Evil Village, her segment was cut due to unknown reasons, and while it might be plans to feature her in another upcoming game, it could have also been for a myriad of other reasons. Though Ada saw Raccoon City fall, having been there duringResident Evil 2, she doesn’t seem to have any attachment to the city, so it is doubtful that she would ever return, and if she did, it would likely be for a certain blonde government agent. That said, maybe it’s time for Ada to step out of Leon’s shadow and have her very own game afterRequiem.

2Albert Wesker

His Departure Leaves His Return Very Unlikely

Wesker is one of the most popularResident Evilvillains, and maybe even one of the best in all of horror gaming. Starring in the first game alongside Jill and Chris, his duplicitous nature was eventually revealed, giving rise to his villainy, and starting an intense rivalry between him and Chris that would culminate in theResident Evil 5finale.

The ending fight seemed pretty final as Wesker fell to his death inside an active volcano, which seems impossible to come back even with the scientific advancements in theResident Eviluniverse. Though fans have been secretly hoping for his return in some form or another, that is likely not to be the case untilCode: Veronicaor the fifth game are giventhe remakesrumors suggest they will soon receive.

1Chris Redfield

Having the Most Appearances Throughout the Series, Chris Is Overdue a Vacation

First debuting in the franchise in the very first game back in 1996, Chris isthe protagonist with the most appearancesout of all the others, returning inResident Evil 5and being handed roles in subsequent games, even where he was not one of the main characters, such asVillage.

Though one of the most popular and important protagonists in theResident Evilseries, it may be time Chris took a short vacation, as he has done enough in recent years. Though his fight against BoWs will likely be met with death before retirement, it might be time to let other, more forgotten or even new characters take over, at least for a little bit, as a new game should call for some new characters.
