InDeath Stranding, one of the most interesting ways to deal with BTs was to use the cuff to cut the umbilical cord and send them back to the other side. However, because the cuff link has been replaced, many players will likely wonder if you cancut BTs umbilical cord inDeath Stranding 2: On the Beach?Luckily, for players hoping to get up close and personal with their favorite Beached Thing, there is a way to perform this maneuver in the sequel. In this guide, we’ll show youhow to cut BTs umbilical cords inDeah Stranding 2.

Can You Cut BT Umbilical Cords in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach?

Unlock Blood Boomerang:

Many of the players who completedDeath Strandingwill likely wonder how many mechanics will make a return inDeath Stranding 2,and how many will be available from the start? As previously mentioned, the original cuff link – and the required upgrade used to cut umbilical cords – have been replaced with theRing TerminalinDS2.Because of this, you will not be able to cut cords from the start of the game. This does not mean, however, that the mechanic does not return.

Tocut the umbilical cords of BTs inDS2,you’ll first need to unlock the new Blood Boomerang weapon. This will happen automatically once you reach Australia andcomplete Order 16. This will take you fromWest Fort Knot(F1), to theNorthern Environmental Observatory. Once you reach Mike Northcote at the Observatory, and hand in the order, you will unlock theBlood Boomerang.

Once you have the Blood Boomerang, you may perform the ‘Cut Umbilical Cord’ maneuver, just like inDeath Stranding.

How to Cut BT Umbilical Cords in Death Stranding 2

Up Close & Personal:

For players new to theDeath Strandinguniverse, many of the BTs – Beach Things – are tethered to the world of the dead through an umbilical cord. When you encounter most types of BTs, you’ll see the cord trailing far behind. However, you cannot approach at any point in the cord. You must get right up close to the BT to have the chance to perform this action.

As you can see in the video, you must move very slowly, hold your breath, and wait for the prompt to appear on the screen. Once you see the prompt, press the circle button, and Sam will perform a quick action with the Blood Boomerang, severing the BT from the land of the living, and returning it to its home on the other side.

BTs that are partially buried, or too high to reach, can be wrangled with the Bola gun. Once they are wrapped, they will come to the ground, or rise up from it. Once that occurs, the prompt will appear.

One of the coolest parts of this mechanic is the fact that every time you cut a BTs umbilical cord, they will reward you witha single Like. Along with the like, the normal Gazer-type BTs will cause a single Chiral Crystal cluster to form when they are severed from the living world. Look out for Gold Gazers, which cause far more clusters to form.

While we know the cutting maneuver works on Gazers, we are not yet sure if it works on other BT types. If we discover that they do, we will update this guide.
