SomeCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers believe developer Raven Software may have just teased the addition of a cel-shaded Rebirth Island variant. Cel-shaded maps and operator skins were incredibly popular during the life cycle of 2023’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but never made their way into the shooter’s free-to-play Battle Royale title,Call of Duty: Warzone. But with the recent reveal of new Beavis and Butt-Head operator skins, that could be about to change.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis currently approaching the halfway point of Season 4, which means players are patiently waiting for Activision to pull back the curtain on the game’s big Season 4 Reloaded update. While there has been no official announcement as of writing, the mid-season update is expected to be released in the coming days and will add two new Multiplayer maps toBlack Ops 6, with one beinga remaster of the iconicBlack Ops 3map, Fringe. Season 4 Reloaded will also be adding Ranked Play Resurgence, a new Casual Resurgence mode similar to Battle Royale Casual, a new Care Package Killstreak, and much more.
A Cel-Shaded Version of Rebirth Island May Be Coming to Warzone
With Season 4 Reloaded likely now a matter of days away, Activision is finally giving fans a look at some of the new content coming to bothBlack Ops 6andWarzone. Yesterday, on June 23, the studio announced that cartoon iconsBeavis and Butt-Head will be coming toCall of Dutywith the mid-season update. However, some eagle-eyed fans, such as content creator JGOD, noticed that the promotional image for the collaboration seemed to be on a cel-shaded version of Rebirth Island that has never been seen before. Although Activision didn’t mention anything about the collaboration including new map variants,Call of Dutyhas released numerous cel-shaded maps in the past, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see one of the game’s most iconic maps get a new makeover for the Beavis and Butt-Head collaboration.
A cel-shaded version of Rebirth Island would also be appropriate, considering this is the same style as the upcoming Beavis and Butt-Head skins. However, these aren’t the firstcel-shaded skins to be added toCall of Dutysince the launch ofBlack Ops 6. The first was an anime-style skin for the Alvarez operator, but not everyone was pleased about it. Despite the fact thatModern Warfare 3featured plenty of cel-shaded skins, their arrival inBlack Ops 6divided the community, as many continued to rally for Treyarch Studios to add more realistic cosmetic items to the game in order to keep with the 90s setting of theBlack Ops 6campaign.
Rumors have been circulating that Activision is actively consideringtoning down the unrealistic operator skins inCall of Duty, but it’s unclear when this change may take effect. The studio is currently gearing up to launch the next instalment in the series,Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Treyarch Studios' next shooter will be a direct sequel to the iconicBlack Ops 2and will be set in the year 2035. A release date for the title is currently unknown, but it has been confirmed to launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
