Call of Duty: Warzone’s DMZ modewas first introduced alongside 2022’sModern Warfare 2, offering a new spin on the shooter’s usual gameplay formula. DMZ, which is an extraction-based, PvPvE, is completely free-to-play, just likeCall of Duty: Warzone, and takes inspiration from the likes ofEscape from Tarkovand other extraction-based games. Unfortunately, it failed to take off in the same way thatWarzonedid in 2020, which led to Activision ending support for the mode after just one year. While it remains completely operational for those who remain dedicated to the mode, it has not received any new content updates or hotfixes for almost two years now.
It seemed like Activision had completely given up on trying to make DMZ successful, but the studio may have just gone back to the drawing board, as rumors surfaced earlier this year that claimedCall of Duty’s DMZ mode would be returning in 2026. There are still a few months left to go beforeCall of Duty2025 - now officially known asBlack Ops 7 -launches, but further details on DMZ’s potential 2026 return continue to surface. Leaker and data minerRealityhas now claimed that the mode will feature a “social area,” which is speculated to operate similarly toCall of Duty: WW2’s HQ. This would allow players to enter a designated area and be safe from other players.
Call of Duty’s Potential New DMZ Mode May Bring Back WW2’s HQ
Fellow leakerTheGhostOfHopealso chimed in by saying that they have heard the new version of DMZ may feature a “safe area on the map where you can’t PvP.” The insider compared it to asimilar feature inDayZ, but did note that they “could be wrong.” Given that Infinity Ward’s 2026 entry is still in active development, there’s a strong chance that details and features, such as the ones currently rumored, could always be altered or removed before the game’s full release.
There have already been numerousleaks and rumors surroundingCall of Duty2026, which is speculated to be a new entry in therebootedModern Warfareseries and developed by Infinity Ward. Recent leaks claimed that next year’sCall of Dutygame will be titled “Modern Warfare 사” and will feature both North and South Korea in a “significant” role. Previous rumors have also suggested thatCall of Duty2026 will finally be ditching support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
