In other words, Karma removes the element of personal growth and undermines the shonen trope of earning strength through hard work, training, and perseverance, which Naruto and the rest of the older generation have repeatedly shown in the past.
Remember when Naruto fans celebrated thesuccess of Team 7when they learned how to climb a tree without using their hands? That’s not going to happen in Boruto sooner or later, as the power of all karma users spikes drastically even without them having to train or work for it in a meaningful way. It becomes an overly convenient but predictable ability, almost as if the series has given up on making it more exciting.

While the Karma’s design is cool, especially when it’s activated, there’s no variety or personal flair among the known users. Fans have seen the karma work similarly with just little to no visual or ability-based differences, unlikethe Sharingan and the Rinnegan. On top of that, the Boruto series seemingly forces Karma as the new central ability of the franchise even without proper buildup.

This is good news for hopeful fans, as karma still has the potential to be a more engaging plot device sooner or later.
For example, the Boruto manga could show readers the struggle ofmastering Karma’s full potentialin the future. Instead of Boruto mastering the full power of karma too quickly, the series can show the slow and painful process behind the scenes, just like how Naruto learned Rasengan in the past. The setbacks and other mishaps should be added for karma to carry more emotional weight and payoff.
On the other hand, the Boruto manga could also grant Boruto or Kawaki distinct karma abilities depending on their personality, chakra nature, orthe Otsutsuki member tied to them. In addition, the series could also introduce non-combat uses of karma to maintain its uniqueness.

Boruto Inches Closer to Mastering Karma’s Full Power
As ofBoruto: Two Blue Vortexchapter 23, Boruto has yet to master the full power of Karma, despite the time skip. In fact, he has never used the powers of karma in Two Blue Vortex at all because ofMomoshiki Otsutsuki’s potential returnand his hostility toward his precious friends and loved ones.
However, it’s clear that he’s doing a very good job keeping Momoshiki at bay and that he has more control over Karma now. If this continues, it will not be a surprise ifBoruto’s next upgrade in the mangawill be him mastering the full power of Momoshiki’s karma. Hopefully, by then, fans will feel more excitement about Karma’s role instead of just seeing it as a boring, generic power-up.
