It’s easy to see whyBlue Eye Samuraibecame such a big hit forNetflixwhen it released onto the platform in 2023, and now, the stunning animated series has received a new look at a season 2 clip from Netflix, as well as the show’s co-creator teasing fans about the return of Mizu.

Blue Eye Samuraiblew animation-loving fans away when it debuted on Netflix two years ago, as it told the touching yet horrific story of Mizu and her quest for revenge. Due to the show’s immensely complex characters, beautiful environments and rich lore,Blue Eye Samuraipicked up three major Emmy Awards wins in Outstanding Achievement in Animation in 2024. For those who haven’t yet had the pleasure of watching it, the animated series is set during the 17th-century Edo-period in Japan and tells the brutal tale of Mizu (voiced by Maya Erskine), a mixed-race master of the sword, and her journey to seek out revenge against four white men who were present in Japan during her birth, causing unspeakable violence. However, to fulfill her retribution, Mizu must disguise herself as a man or risk being outed, or worse, killed. Netflix Teases New Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 Clip

During its Anime Expo presentation in the Peacock Theater on Saturday, a new teaser forNetflix’sBlue Eye Samuraiwas shown off in a sizzle reel among other upcoming animated shows, likeBeastars,Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2,Record of Ragnarok III, andSakamoto Days.In the short clip, Mizu can be heard saying, “This will not end until I’ve had my revenge” as she then sword fights against a foe in a spectacular showdown. The video also shows Mizu heading off on the boat to London, which is where season one left fans hanging on its emotional cliffhanger.

Appearing at the Anime Expo presentation via pre-taped interviews (thanks,The Hollywood Reporter), the co-creators ofBlue Eye Samurai,Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, as well as the show’s executive producer Jane Wu, chimed in to reveal tidbits about what fans can expect for season 2. Noizumi shared that Mizu’s “journey remains the same. Revenge is her religion,” as Green revealed that Mizu “believes that at least two of [the men] that she’s out to kill are going to be somewhere in this magical place called London,” and that season 2 will kick off with her “breaking in somewhere to kill someone.”

Sadly, at present, a release date forBlue Eye Samuraiseason 2 is still up in the air and wasn’t revealed during the Expo. However, previously, Wu confirmed that the second season should arrive in 2026, this everything remains plain sailing. This certainly isn’t the news that fans would want to hear, but given the amount of work that goes intoBlue Eye Samurai,it’s easy to see why the team would want to take those extra weeks and months to perfect it.
