There are a bunch of fancy weapon types inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, but nothing beats a good old-fashioned axe. If you’re the type of person who loves strength builds inSoulsgames, then you’ll feel right at home with the axe playstyle inWuchang.
Axes on their own aren’t as strong as the other weapon types inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, however, but you’re able to maximize their damage and utility with the right set of skills. You can get some incredibly powerful axe skills early on inWuchang, and things just get even better from there once you start to discover rarer axes and add more skills to your repertoire.
Best Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Axe Build
Axes inWuchanghave very slow attacks that leave you vulnerable to incoming damage, so the best axe build focuses on increasing attack speed, boosting Skyborn Might generation, and controlling the pace of battles. You can greatly increase the performance of your axe with the right Impetus Repository upgrades, Benedictions, and Temperance choices.
Best Impetus Repository Axe Skills in Wuchang
These are thebest axe skillsto unlock inWuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Thunderous CleaveandTide Turnerare also very important axe skills, but they’re located at the start of the axe skill tree so you have to unlock them anyway. They make the axe’s light combo restore some stamina and generate some Skyborn Might, which opens the door for stronger combo finishers once you unlock them.
Shudder & Crushis one of the earliest axe skills you should unlock inWuchang. It allows you to quickly perform a charged attack using Skyborn Might. Since you can bypass the long windup with Skyborn Might, it’ll be much easier to stagger enemies by hitting them with charged attacks from behind.
You’ll have to unlock Shudder & Crush to reachEarthshatter, anyway. Earthshatter is one of the strongest axe skills inWuchang, performing an AOE shockwave attack that grants you Resilience if used with Skyborn Might. Resilience makes you harder to interrupt, essentially giving you super armor and ensuring that the attack will hit no matter what.
Whirlwind, on the other hand, is one of the best axe skills for dealing with crowds. It’s just a powerful spin attack that gets even stronger when you have Skyborn Might. Since it hits multiple times, it’s also a great pairing for elemental Temperances that infuse your weapons with flames or other effects.
Once you get further along in the axe skill tree, you should focus on unlockingRampage. Not only is it a very strong ability, but one of its upgrades makes your subsequent melee attacks restore health. Aggression is the name of the game for axe wielders, so stealing HP from enemies is exceptionally useful.
Best Axe Benedictions in Wuchang
This is the best trio of Benedictions for axe users inWuchang: Fallen Feathers.
These can all bepurchased from Pandaor Wu Gang fairly early inWuchang. As the names suggest, they increase your damage output as you learn more Discipline skills. You’ll easily be able to take advantage of this bonus effect by the time you reach important axe skills like Rampage.
Best Temperance for Axes in Wuchang
FireandLeechare the bestTemperancesfor axes inWuchang: Fallen Feathers. The Flame Bone Needle is the first one you’ll find inWuchang, and it’s one of the best in the game despite being unlocked so early. Fire damage is effective against most enemies and bosses, so adding it to your axe swings will only boost your damage output.
The Leech Temperance grants you lifesteal and restores HP with every successful strike, which is immensely helpful for axe-wielders who are constantly in the danger zone during battles. Getting hit is a guarantee, so having the Leech Temperance in your arsenal will buy you some time and save your Manna Vases for more important moments.
Best Axes in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Unlike most other weapon types inWuchang, the startingHalberdthat you can find at the beginning of the game remains viable for a long time. You can get away with using the Halberd for quite some time, especially if you upgrade it in the Impetus Repository. Its skills may not be impressive, but they’re reliable and deal solid damage.
The Halberd obtained is a very strong weapon that can hold its own through the early stages of the game, but theEmpyrean Greataxeis a significant upgrade that you can obtain within the first few hours ofWuchang: Fallen Feathers. It’s located on a rooftop nearShu Sanctum, which is one of the first major hub areas you’ll encounter. It comes with a unique weapon skill called Empyrean Crash that lets you dodge incoming attacks and retaliate with a devastating combo.
The Empyrean Greataxe can carry you through most ofWuchang: Fallen Feathers, so don’t be afraid to invest in some upgrades for it. Theupgrade materialsmay be rare, but they’ll be well-spent if you use them on the Empyrean Greataxe. You can always find more later, anyway.
