Summary

Magic: The Gatheringis one of the longest-running TCGs of all time and has plenty of different crossovers. One of which draws iconic characters from the world ofFinal Fantasy.Final Fantasyis a beloved JRPG property, meaning players will have parties of various characters pushing the story forward. A protagonist is a character that drives the focus of the story forward, regardless of who they are or how they choose to do so.

While theFinal Fantasygames may have a particular characterintroduced as the main character, the term ‘protagonist’ can be used for other characters that are still central to the development of the story.

MTG Final Fantasy Lightning Army of One

8Lightning, Army of One

Adds Plenty of Aggro Synergy for the Mid-game

Lightning, Army of One is a great aggro card. It comes with 3 power, 2 toughness, first strike, trample, and lifelink. What makes this such a fearsome card is that if she manages to deal damage to an opponent, all follow-up damage to that player or a permanent they control is doubled — until the end of that turn.

Having first strike means players can use an instant to deal damage to their target first or give Lightning, Army of One a boost to its power. This synergizes well if several +1/+1 counters can be placed on it.

MTG Final Fantasy Aerith

7Aerith Gainsborough

Great in a Legendary Creature Life Deck

Whenever you gain life, you get to put a +1/+1 counter on this card. This card also has a lifelink. This means whenever this card battles with another creature, it gets stronger and harder to kill each time it survives. Players can also tactfully increase their life before it fights a creature for this bonus.

This can be used to either kill a creature that would survive or help Aerith Gainsborough survive when it otherwise would be slain. When this card dies, it also gets to put a +1/+1 counter on each legendary creature equal to the number of counters on it. This synergizes well with many other legendary creatures that revolve around gaining life.

MTG Final Fantasy Yuna Hope of Spira

6Yuna, Hope of Spira

Ideal Choice for Summon Decks Focused on White and Green Mana

By the time this card comes out, players will have a lot of setup already in play. Future turns will make some large threats far more daunting for opponents. During the player’s turn, Yuna and enchantment creatures they control will have trample, lifelink, and ward 2. This means if an opponent wants to target them, they will need to pay 2 additional mana for each of them.

Being a legendary creature with lifelink means it synergizes well with Aerith Gainsborough. This is an amazing card for players looking to make a summon deck, as these will be enchantment creatures such as Titan.

MTG Final Fantasy Cloud Strife

5Cloud, Midgar Mercenary

Decide on Strategies Based on What Opponents Are Playing

Could, Midgar Mercenary only costs two white mana and when it’s played, it lets the player search their deck for an equipment card to add to their hand? So long as this card has an equipment card on it, any abilities of this card or the equipped cards will trigger twice.

This synergizes well with Cloud’s signature weapon, the Buster Sword, but players can have plenty of other equipment options depending on what their opponent is playing. This allows players to change up their strategy to cater to the best outcome in the moment.

MTG Final Fantasy Bart and Boko

4Bartz and Boko

Works Phenomenally Well in Any Bird Deck

Barts and Boko work in a deck surrounding Birds in a similar way Yuna works in a deck surrounding Summons. This card has 4 power and 3 toughness, but to get the most value from this card, players will want to play it when they have at least 3 Birds out to make this cost 3 less.

Furthermore, when this card comes out, each Bird will deal damage equal to its power to creatures that the opponent controls. This means the more Birds a player has out, the more damage they can volley for just GG. There are a lot of amazing Bird cards in this set, but also in past sets as well, to make this a great Standard Format card.

MTG Final Fantasy Zack Fair

While this may make some players want to incorporate Lightning into the deck to double this damage. Having a Red, White, and Green Bird deck might not be as effective as other color pairings.

3Zack Fair

Incredibly Cheap Cost and Adds Incredible Versatility

Very cheap with a cost of only one white mana means it can come out in a player’s opening turn. He has zero attack and 1 toughness, but he enters with a +1/+1 counter on him. This is another perfect complement for Aerith Gainborough, but also for any other card that is in immediate danger. This is because players can pay a cost of 1 to sacrifice Zack Fair and give all counters on him to that creature.

That creature then gains indestructible until the end of the turn. This would let Aerith survive any battle and trigger her lifelink. The cherry on top is that any Equipment cards on Zack also move onto the selected creature. This adds a lot of flexibility to a player’s arsenal for setting up their endgame.

MTG Final Fantasy Tifa Lockhart

2Cecil, Dark Knight

A Somewhat Intimidating Playstyle, But With a Big Payoff

A single-cost card with 2 power, 3 toughness, and deathtouch is going to shut down many early game strategies. This can be a nightmare for some aggro players, but a card like this may start to drop around mid-game — and it has a solution to this. This card will have the player losing life each time they attack with this card, which can sound very scary at first. However, this card will transform once a player’s life drops to 10 or lower.

This transforms it into a 4 power, 4 toughness, with lifelink. It will also grant all other attacking creatures indestructible until the end of the turn. This is something not many players will be ready to counter unless they specifically plan for dealing with such outcomes. Players will need to be ready to tackle this card or find themselves struggling.

1Tifa Lockhart

Final Fantasy 7 racked up a lot of incredible cards for the set. However, Tifa Lockhart takes the cake by being a true force to reckon with. Whenever a land its player controls enters the battlefield, its power doubles.

As a legendary creature, it can be pumped up by Aerith Gainsborough later in a match or make use of the many other green mana cards to ramp it up and bring down a massive amount of hurt relative to whenever it is played.
