Summary
Along their adventure, Luffy and the Straw Hat crew have come across a plethora of powerful, strange, and weird creations that have been left behind by some of the world’s greatest minds. While there are only a select few characters in theOne Pieceseries who have been referred to as scientists, these individuals are still among some of the most important people around, especially since their extensive knowledge often makes them a prime target for the Marines and World Government.
On the other hand, some of these individuals have even decided to follow the life of a pirate, using their wicked smarts to assist their crew in reaching the One Piece treasure. Some, however, simply decided to go rogue, continuing their research in secret so as not to be interrupted or exposed by the government. While most of these characters are super-smart, as has been made clear by their impressive feats seen in the series, this is how the scientists ofOne Piecematch up in terms of their overall achievements and intelligence.
6Buckingham Stussy
The Former Rocks Pirate Is A Self-Proclaimed Scientist Who Was Even A Member Of MADS
Buckingham Stussy may have initially seemed like little more than a random old lady who was determined to crush everyone in her path through her loyal servant, Weevil, but it turns out there’s actually a lot more to this character than meets the eye. After traveling the seas with none other thanRocks D. Xebec and his dangerous pirate crew, Stussy would then end up becoming a member of the infamous group of scientists known as MADS, alongside the likes of Vegapunk, Caesar Clown, and Queen.
The truth is, though, Vegapunk himself has admitted that Stussy was somewhat of a free loader during her time as a scientist, not really contributing all that much to the team’s efforts. That being said, though, she was still the person who volunteered to have herself cloned, which is ultimately what led to the Stussy that fans are most familiar with in the series. Therefore, while she may not be anywhere near as intelligent as her old comrades, Stussy clearly has at least some kind of know-how when it comes to creating duplicates of other people, considering she had first-hand experience of this herself.
5Queen
Kaido’s Loyal Commander Uses His Intelligence to Create Weapons Of Destruction
While Queen was once a member of MADS many years ago, in the main story, he debuts as a loyal member of the Beast Pirates under the direct command of theterrifying Yonko known as Kaido. The main reason Kaido decided to bring Queen aboard was because of his ability to conjure up pretty much anything he could think of. A prime example of this came during the battle on the performance floor in Wano, where Queen whipped out a gatling gun, which was capable of firing out a deadly Ice Oni disease, which caused everyone affected to turn on one another, resulting in a mindless bloodbath.
Queen has also heavily modified his own body so that he can extend his limbs to outmaneuver anyone who dares to stand up to him. While incredibly impressive, Queen’s creations have been counted by characters such as Chopper and Sanji through very specific means, but Queen is still a real force to be reckoned with, considering he always has a dangerous arsenal of dangerous weapons up his sleeve that he’s able to utilize at any moment.
4Vinsmoke Judge
An Awful Father, But A Wicked-Smart Scientist Who Created A Ruthless Army
It doesn’t take very long for Sanji to admit that he has a burning hatred for most of his family, but most specifically, his father, Judge. The reason for this is that Judge ensured his kids would be born as numb and emotionless killing machines who could help him restore the Germa Kingdom back to its former glory in the North Blue. Not only that, he was also responsible for conjuring up the immensely powerful Raid Suits, which the Germa family uses to increase their speed, mobility, and overall fighting power when in battle.
Sanji, however, didn’t turn out to be like his brothers and sister because his mother consumed a drug that ensured he would not be affected by Judges' influence, which is why he was so harshly bullied as a child. Considering how strong Germa 66 are shown to be throughout theWhole Cake Island arc, it’s evident that Judge is an extremely skilled scientist who is more than capable of taking over entire islands if he wanted to, but the way he goes about creating his experiments is truly abhorrent.
3Saturn
As a group of elders who are more than willing to eliminate anyone who dares to challenge their authority, or who tries to seek out more information about the history of the world, the Gorosei aren’t exactly presented as the most likable cast of characters. However, this especially applies to Saturn, a man who once held the title of being the Warrior God of Science and Defense, before he was eventually discarded by Imu.
While Satan as a character has only recently been explored in the story, Oda has already provided some clear indications as to how intelligent this guy truly is. The most obvious example of this is how Saturn was able to extract the essence of a Devil Fruit so that he could theninject it into Bonnie, which should have been impossible given the girl’s young age at the time. Being able to essentially play god with the Devil Fruits is far from easy, so it’s remarkable that he was able to pull it off, despite his reasons for doing so being completely immoral.
2Caesar Clown
Caesar Figured Out A Way To Create Artificial Devil Fruits To Help Kaido Crate A Ferocious Army
Speaking of Devil Fruits, Caesar Clown has been able to accomplish something that no one else in the series could have even dreamed of, and that is creating artificial Devil Fruits that actually work, at least most of the time. After making an agreement with Kaido and Doflamingo, Caesar was able to construct thousands of Devil Fruits on Punk Hazard before then selling them off to Kaido as part of a black market deal. While some fruits turned out to be duds, possessing extremely dangerous side effects that spread to the residents of Wano, those that were deemed a success were able to turn many ofKaido’s Beast Piratesinto terrifying monsters in the blink of an eye.
His experiments don’t stop there, though, as Caesar was figuring out a way to transform children into giants, which he was ordered to do by Big Mom so that she, too, could start bulking up her crew full of people her own size. Of course, none of these creations are morally good, considering they are all designed to benefit Caesar himself in one way or another rather than actually helping those in need, but it’s hard to deny that Caesar has shown some incredibly impressive feats in the series when it comes to his expertise in science.
1Vegapunk
Vegapunk’s Intelligence Was Both A Blessing And A Curse For The Quirky Scientist
Vegapunk is a name Luffy and his crew hear many times over the course of their adventure, but it’s not until they arrive on Egghead Island that they actually get to meet the man himself. Another former member of MADS who eventually decided to go rogue, Vegapunk, is undoubtedly the smartest man in the entire series. Not only did Vegapunk create the Seraphims, who are all strong enough to replacethe Shichibukaias the Marines' lapdogs, but he was even able to deduce some of the forbidden secrets that are directly related to the Void Century.
Additionally, Vegapunk even found a way to separate his own consciousness into multiple different Satellites, all of whom possessed different attributes of the man himself. Vegapunk is the only scientist in the series who actually wanted to use his intelligence to help solve some of the world’s biggest problems, but this was ultimately why he was seen as more of a threat by the Marines and the World Government at large, resulting in him being brutally murdered by a long time friend after it became clear that he knew far too much for his own good.
