Summary
One Pieceis such a huge manga series with such anextensive cast of charactersthat many of them still haven’t appeared in Toei’s famous animated adaptation. This is a real shame, because these are all great characters with interesting backstories, outstanding designs, and unique powers.
Needless to say, there are a lot of greatOne Piececharacters whowere never featured in the anime, whether it’s because they were featured in a piece of content that it’s never going to be adapted (like a Cover Story) or because they’re part of a recent manga story arc that’s not going to be adapted for a few more years, and the following are the best examples of this oddly specific occurrence.
8Mr. 7 (Original)
A Deadly Bounty Hunter Who Was Part Of Zoro’s Past
Of course, Baroque Works’ Mr. 7 did appear in the anime during the Arabasta Arc, but that’s the second person in the series who has used that alias. A few chapters/episodes before that,Roronoa Zoro mentions that the previousMr. 7tried to recruit him for the organization by force, but he was ultimately killed by the legendary swordsman.
That’s right, this is a character that died at the hands of Zoro and almost succeeded in making him join Baroque Works, but despite his significance to the story, he has never made an on-screen appearance in the anime. Curiously enough, however, Eiichiro Oda drew a rough sketch of Mr. 7 for one of his many SBS Columns, which the staff of Netflix’s live-action adaptation used to portray this character. Mr. 7 only appeared in the live-actionOne Pieceseries, where he came off as both intriguing and intimidating, and his shocking death quickly set the tone for how deadly Zoro was going to be in this show.
7The Automata
Enel’s Little Robot Friends
The Cover Stories of theOne Piecemanga are famous for introducing many new characters and plot threads that are rarely mentioned in the main storyline, with a few notorious exceptions.Enel’s Great Space Operationsis a perfect example of a fascinating Cover Storythat most anime-only fans are completely unaware of, as it details Enel’s whereabouts after the end of the Skypeia Arc.
The false God met the Automata, a bunch of cute little androids that were created by a brilliant scientist on Earth, who died when an explosion on the moon made him choke on his food. The androids flew up to the moon to avenge their creator, but they ultimately needed Enel’s assistance to defeat the dangerous Space Pirates that were residing there. The Automata are cute, friendly, and loyal, and their relationship with Enel is really endearing, not to mention that their origin and existence are shrouded in mystery, since Enel later found and reactivated another group of Automata that were created by ancient inhabitants of the moon.
6Ida
Hajrudin’s Loving Mother
Just when manga readers thought that the currently ongoing Elbaf Arc had already introduced a lot of brand-new characters that are not going to appear in the anime for a few more years, the story suddenly took a deep look into Loki and King Harald’s flashback, which revealed many interesting things about these two, their home country and their family. One of the characters introduced during this flashback wasIda,Harald’s mistress and the biological mother of Hajrudin.
Even though she was captured and enslaved by humans, Ida is still a very compassionate and forgiving woman who taught Harald how to use his size and power for good in order to create bonds with other countries and races. She’s such a kind person that she was even willing to accept baby Loki into her life, who was tragically rejected by his mother the moment he was born. Unfortunately, Ida was introduced so recently that her fate is still completely unknown, and she most likely passed away at some point.
5Rimoshifu Killingham
An Odd-Looking God’s Knight With A Surprisingly Dangerous Devil Fruit
One of the most significant aspects of the Elbaf Arc was the long-awaited introduction of the God’s Knights, as fans were finally able to witness the appearances, personalities, and powers of the World Nobles’ elite guards. One of them isSaintRimoshifu Killingham, who immediately stood out due to his striking non-human design.
It turns out that he ate the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Kirin, a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, which not only allows him to transform into a Kirin but also grants him the ability to take the dreams of sleeping individuals and turn them into deadly monsters. Killingham has been playing a crucial role in the God’s Knights’ plan to force Elbaf to surrender, and as a result, he has become one of the most important antagonists of the entire story arc so far. Curiously enough, he recently deactivated his Kirin form, revealing the admittedly cool-looking human-like appearance that he was hiding underneath all along.
4Shepherd Sommers
The Absolute Cruelest Member Of The God’s Knights
Shepherd Sommersis yet another member of the God’s Knights who was introduced in the ongoing Elbaf Arc,and it was immediately evident that he seemed to possess some level of authority over his fellow warriors. Furthermore, Sommers is a ruthless, sadistic, and violent man who didn’t hesitate to use innocent children to achieve their malicious goal.
His Devil Fruit, the Iba Iba no Mi, perfectly complements his evil personality, since it allows him to create and manipulate vines covered in thorns. He not only covered the hypnotized children of Elbaf with these vines, so they would instantly harm anybody who tried to touch them, but he also effectively used them in battle against Saul and Robin. Similarly to Killingham, Sommers is an interesting and despicable villain, and he’s undeniably proof that the God’s Knights are a real threat to everyone who tries to oppose the World Government.
3Manmayer Gunko
A Powerful Fighter With A Mysterious Past (And A Connection With Brook)
Out of all the God’s Knights that were introduced during the Elbaf Arc,Manmayer Gunkois the most remarkable and important one so far. She first appeared alongside Figarland Shamrock (who, technically, already appeared in the anime), and she immediately stood out due to her striking design and her unique Devil Fruit powers, as the Aro Aro no Mi that she ate allows her to create and manipulate vectorial arrows.
Ever since her relatively recent introduction, Gunko has faced many characters in battle, like Loki, Scopper Gaban, Nami, Usopp, Brook, and Jinbe, and every single time she used her powers in brilliant and fascinating ways. Curiously enough, she seems to be a fan of Soul King Brook’s music, which is not only a very endearing character trait on its own, but it also led to the shocking revelation that she has some sort of connection to the Straw Hats' musician’s mysterious past. Because of this unexpected plot twist, fans are dying to learn more about Gunko’s backstory in the near future, but this is certainly going to take a long time, seeing as she’s currently being possessed by Imu.
2King Harald
The Old King Of Elbaf Ended Up Being Much More Interesting Than Expected
Shortly after the Straw Hat Pirates arrived at Elbaf, multiple characters began discussing the fate and influence ofKing Harald, the nation’s defunct ruler. At first, he seemed like a pretty generic monarch-type character who had allegedly betrayed his own country for some reason, but the fact that he was a descendant of the ancient giant tribe who cut off his massive horns out of shamealready made him intriguing in the eyes of most fans.
However, the currently ongoing flashback has revealed a lot more information about Harald, and it has successfully put him in a brand-new light. Thanks to Ida’s influence, Harald became a responsible ruler who tried to build bridges with other nations and exchange valuable resources with them. Despite his size and power, he was a benevolent king, which makes his sudden death at the hands of his guards all the more shocking and intriguing. While his true fate will certainly be revealed in the story very soon, Harald is already a great character that sadly won’t appear in the anime for a very long time.
1Loki
The Accursed Prince Of Elbaf May Become The Next Straw Hat
PrinceLokiof Elbaf is one of manyOne Piececharacters who were previously introduced as a faceless silhouette, but he finally made his long-awaited introduction in the current story arc, and he definitely lived up to the hype. He pretty much became the main character of the Elbaf Arc, as the story heavily revolves around his imprisonment for a crime he claims he didn’t commit: the murder of his father, King Harald.
While Loki initially came off as rude and intimidating, the story slowly revealed that he’s quite jovial and compassionate,to the point that Luffy even asked him to join his crew. On top of that, the current flashback has also revealed that he has one of the most heartbreaking backstories in the entire series. Due to his excellent design, tragic past, immense power, and interesting personality, Loki is undoubtedly one of the best characters in modernOne Piece, and anime-only fans will certainly enjoy his presence in a few years.
