Longswords are arguably the best weapon type to choose, and are also the first weapon you’ll get to use when you start the game. Here are the best skills and upgrades to get to make your character very efficient with Longswords, along with which disciplines you should aim to use to give you the best options in combat.
Best Stats to Upgrade for Longswords in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Yourmain stat to worry about for Longswords is Strength, and sometimes Agility, depending on the actual longsword you’re using. While a lot of them scale off of both, they usually scale better off of strength, so it’s best to level up more strength than agility, as increasing damage is all those skills do. A lot of the Longsword branch offers strength upgrades, but after getting all those, you should move over to the Spear or Axe branch and start getting strength upgrades there over the agility upgrades.
One of thefirst slots in the Spear tree is a +5 Strengthand should be purchased as soon as possible.
When in your inventory, hover over a weapon and look at the flower icon in the bottom right to see exactly how well your current longsword scales. Thehigher the Roman numeral, the more of a damage boost you getfrom each strength upgrade.
Outside of upgrading your stats, you shouldupgrade your Longsword Masteryevery chance you get, as it doesn’t cost Mercury Points and will further boost how much your damage scales from your strength.
Best Disciplines for Longswords in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
A lot of weapons have unique disciplines that can’t be moved to other weapons, so those will be left off of what’s listed below since it’s uncontrollable until you’re at the end of the game and have every longsword. As for the ones you can unlock in the branch and use, the best options are:
Blink Kick may not deal the most damage, but it can be one of the most useful skills in the game. The activation is nearly instant, and Wuchang ducks down,making her hitbox smaller and dodging some incoming attacks. Blink Kick also stuns a lot of human-sized enemies and can even interrupt combos or attacks from regular enemies and bosses. Corrosive Flurry is great against just about any enemy that doesn’thave corruption resistance. Both variants for each skill come down to play style, as not one is better than the other overall.
Sword Counter can also be useful, but only if you’re reallygood at timing deflects.
Benedictions & Temperances for Longswords in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Overall, there aren’t set Temperances or Benedictions that are an outright best option for any build.Benedictions focus on different play stylesand making what you’re already good at even better. If you’re still trying out play styles, some useful Benedictions arethose that benefit from you getting Skyborn Might, as the second hit in Longsword combos can give Skyborn Might once you get a bit further into the branch. Some examples are:
Memory: Sheng - Skyborn Rejuvenation
Gaining Skyborn Might adds life leech to your weapon for a short time.
Bu: Skyborn Ward
Gaining Skyborn Might increases defense for a short time.
As for Temperances, these can be unlocked and switched at will thanks to the game’s respecing system. With this, switch it out often to counter to elemental affinities of enemies or bosses you are fighting instead of just sticking to one.
