Summary

Front Mission 3was released for the PS1 in 2000, a year after its release in Japan. It was North America’s first entry in the series that originally started on the SNES in 1995 in Japan. Square Enix, via a partnership with Forever Entertainment, started re-releasing games in the series starting in 2022.

Front Mission 3: Remakeis the latestmech-based tactical RPGto join its fellow remakes. Players will command mechanized robots called Wanzers that they can customize with parts at shops, from weapons to new arms. What should players buy to get an early advantage in the game? Here are just a few suggestions.

BPT3A backpack in Front Mission 3 Remake

7BPT3A

A Good Backpack For Melee Fighters

All Wanzers can equip backpacks, and they can do a variety of things. For example, players can get the BPT3A in Yokohama, which is where the first parts shop is located, physically beyond an online store for items and weapons.

It will boost a Wanzer’s weight limit to a large degree if they have other backpacks on, but more importantly, it will raise attack power specificallyfor melee attacks. This could be a could backpack for Emma, whose specialty relies on shoulder-based missile mounts. Giving her the BPT3A and some melee weapons would be a good way to turn her into a good melee fighter.

Hold Your Items In Style

The BX002 is another backpack, and this is probably the one most players will choose to wear. In battle, there is no item slot akin toa lot of tactical RPGs. Instead, backpacks like the BX002 are the only way for individuals to carry items into battle, and the allotment is VERY limited.

The Wanzers for Emma, Kazuki, and Ryogo all come equipped with the BX002, which is good. However, Dennis will not come with one automatically, so perhaps players should buy an extra BX002 in Yokohama to prepare for Dennis later.

Genie arm in Front Mission 3 Remake

5Genie Arms

A Good Arm For Dennis

The Genie is a type of Wanzer, and it should be noted that a Wanzer build includes a torso, two arms, and one set of legs. The only useful part of a Genie will be the arm, and only for Dennis. It’s the best arm early on for promoting accuracy at the cost of having a lower HP than most Wanzer arms.

Dennis needs all the accuracy help he can get, though, as the group’sdesignated sniper elite. Players may be able to find Genie parts before Singapore, but the shop there definitely has Genie arms for sale.

Surrender Or Die

Front Mission 3: Remakehas an interesting mechanic that will have enemy units surrender if their morale is low enough. The pilots cannot be recruited like themechanic inMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, at the end of battle, players will get the pilot’s Wanzers as a reward that they can disassemble for parts or sell wholesale.

Suffice it to say, before Yokohama and maybe even a little after, players are going to come across a lot of Kasel M2 units, which is good. The arms can and should be equipped to the Wanzers of Emma, Kazuki, and Ryogo because they lessen weight and raise HP, but they do unfortunately lower accuracy.

Kasel M2 legs in Front Mission 3 Remake

3Kasel M2 Legs

I Like To Move It, Move It

Kasel M2 units have another valuable part worth harvesting: the legs. Kasel M2 legs have the best movement speed in the early hours, giving players six squares to move each turn, along with an HP boost.

AsFront Mission 3: Remakeisa grid-based game, this is important because Emma, especially, has a very bad movement speed at first. Ryogo could use a pair of Kasel M2 legs, too, and it wouldn’t hurt Kazuki either, even though his Wanzer’s legs are decent at the start.

Prov PAW2 legs in Front Mission 3 Remake

2Prov PAW2

Hover Over Water

Once players get to Singapore, they should buy theirfour mech-ready pilotsProv PAW2 legs. It’s not fully accurate to call them legs, as the Prov PAW2 looks more like a hoverboard attachment that replaces legs on Wanzers.

They have a low movement speed, but the upside is that they can go over water. This is necessary later on in certain maps, so it’s always good to come prepared to battle, especially in a tactical game likeFront Mission 3: Remake.

SN-100G shield in Front Mission 3 Remake

1SN-100G

Protect Yourself

Finally, it’s a solid idea to give the off-handed arm of each Wanzer a shield. Players can get the Mk6 Shield in Yokohama, followed by the SN-100G in Singapore. During counterattacks, players can choose to use a shield, which will then absorb blows.

This is good for negating damage from snipers off in the distance or Wanzers with missile launchers. All three starting characters would benefit, along with Dennis later. Of those four characters, Dennis and Emma would benefit the most from shields since they should often be positioned at the back battlefield.
