Wuchang: Fallen Feathersgives players a lot ofdifferent weapon typesto equip and use, along with a variety of spells offering a wide range of uses. Spells are used up by charged Skyborn Might, which is quickly earned by attacking and dodging with the right upgrades.
Spells have varying costs and uses, making some much better than others. The following early game spells are ranked by comparing their overall usefulness in combat against regular enemies and bosses, along with factoring in their cost in Skyborn Might and their cast time. All of these spells can be obtained before completing the second area of the game, consisting of the first dozen hours of playtime.
Alacrity protects the user from taking damage during the cast time of the spell.
8Aurum Feather Force
Aurum Feather Force is first on the list as it is the weakest overall spell in terms of damage, and it doesn’t have a status ailment to rely on. That being said, its quick cast time and lower cost make it a great option to weave into a combo.
If you’re going for a spell-heavy build, this spell would constitute your basic attack to quickly hit an enemy in a short window while building up something better. For a non-magic heavy build, this spell is best when used in your quick-cast button to hit enemies that dodged outside your melee range.
7Thunderstorm
What makes Thunderstorm the most unique spell on this list is that the spell comes down from the sky and does not originate from the caster. With that, this spell is a great option for enemies around cover, on the other side of a blocked line of sight, or even behind a shield or some sort of defense.
This spell can hit a group of enemies or the same enemy multiple times to multiply the damage, but the positioning of the enemy and the caster is very important and can determine how effective this spell is. It can also build up paralysis, though it only does so slowly.
6Echo of Dhutanga
Echo of Dhutanga may not deal the most damage, but it does hit enemies in a wide arc in front of you, making it a great magic option against groups. If you hit an enemy from behind with this spell, it also opens them up to an Obliterate attack to deal way more damage than the base spell will deal.
This spell causes a good bit of burn and will usually instantly burn enemies that are weak to fire. This spell has a quick cast time, making it ideal for a melee spell and even more ideal for landing an Obliterate attack on an enemy with no buildup.
5Infernal Flames
Of all the spells on this list that deal a status effect, Infernal Flames is tied for the best at causing its status effect. Burn can deal a lot of damage, and landing one Infernal Flame will deal burn on most enemies, with only a second cast causing burn on all the others.
While this spell excels at causing burn, it is slightly held back by the spell’s speed and damage output. The damage output is only okay, and quicker enemies can easily dodge this spell compared to those later on the list.
4Vorpal Blade
Despite being the first spell you getin the game, the usefulness of Vorpal Blade is pretty great. It’s your first option for dealing magic damage, and landing both blades deals a good amount of damage, no matter how many points you’ve put into magic.
The main hindrance of this spell is its cast time, though using it against unsuspecting enemies will usually be a great opening. With enough space between you and your target, you may often get two or three spells off quickly, thanks to the low cost of the spell.
3Echo of Ai Nengqi
Echo of Ai Nengqi deals a great amount of damage and excels at a range, while also still being usable in close range despite being a bow-style spell. The overall output does rely on how many arrows hit the enemy, and the tracking and speed of the arrows will usually have them all hitting the enemy you are targeting.
This spell has one of the best ranges of anything on the list, and its low cost lets you spam it, especially once you increase your maximum Skyborn Might. This spell also has a chance of dealing Paralysis also depending on how many arrows hit the target, but this is also greatly benefited by spamming the spell at a range.
2Echo of Lui Cheng’en
This spell has a fairly short initial cast time, but further casting leaves you mostly protected due to the area of effect and damage output staggering potential attackers. This spell is great for dealing with groups of people, along with building up a good amount of Frostbite on whoever is hit by it.
This spell hits anything around you, making it great against even fast-moving enemies that may try to dodge an incoming spell. Even against just a single enemy boss, this spell can be a quick melee option, and the potential of slowing down faster enemies with Frostbite is always a great benefit.
1Echo of Soulwood
This spell’s description and first cast may seem like a double-edged sword, but the benefits far outweigh the slight corruption it causes. As long as you’re not fighting against an enemy that deals corruption, it would take multiple casts back to back in order to deal corruption on yourself; meanwhile, just about every cast will deal corruption on basic enemies.
The damage dealt when hitting enemies is good, and the further corruption damage makes this spell one of the highest damaging spells on the list. The quick cast time allows you to quickly reapply corruption should it wear off, making this spell not dominate your playstyle and instead just be additional damage on top ofeverything else you do.
