There is a lot of flexibility in how you want to build your character inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, as you’re given six different branches of themassive skill treeto go down. There are no restrictions or limitations on what direction of the skill tree you want to go down, with it further branching off and giving you different paths to go down.

With all that freedom, there are some skills players should focus on upgrading before others, and this article will focus on those you should aim to get in the first 20-ish levels or so. With the ability to respec whenever you want, it’s worthwhile to try out these skills even if you’re not sure, as there won’t be any penalty in trying your own combinations if you want to later on.

The Manna Capacity Upgrade in the Skill Tree

7Manna Capacity & Manna Potency

Get More Healing That’s More Effective

Manna CapacityandPotencyupgrades are being grouped together, as you’re limited to when you can get these upgrades. While found in the skill tree, they either require Forgotten Remembrances or Lost Remains to upgrade. Both of these items are mostly found along the main path of the game, so progressing further and beating main story bosses will often reward you with Manna upgrades.

A lot of the regions in this game have very spaced-out shrines, so you’ll need a lot of healing just getting from one location to another. Whenever you find yourself getting one of the required upgrade items, you should always hurry back to a Shrine and upgrade your flask immediately.

The Strong Blade Skill for Spears

6Strong Blade (For Your Favorite Weapon Type)

Deal More Damage With Your Favorite Weapon

Weapon Mastery plays a huge role in how much damage scales from your stats with a specific weapon. Your level of Weapon Mastery is determined by how many of theStrong Bladeupgrades you get for that weapon in the skill tree. These upgrades cost Red Feathers, which are this game’s version of weapon upgrade materials.

It’s recommended you keep all your Strong Blade upgrades to only two weapons, as that’s the most you can have equipped at a time. Refunding these upgrades is also free, and prioritizing them on a specific weapon can make that weapon class broken with the right build.

The Bone Needle - Leach Skill in the Menu

5Bone Needle - Leach

Make Your Best Consumable More Versatile

Bone Needles are used with Temperance, which is a consumable you may refill every time you visit a Shrine. You should always take advantage of your Temperance charges, and this skill gives you a new Temperance option to choose from or one for your second weapon.

Bone Needle - Leachspecifically steals health from your enemies, andearly on, this can be a great source of healing when you’re still trying to figure out the game and not min/max your damage output. In the same wheel of upgrades are additional Temperance options, so even if Leach isn’t your go-to choice, there are a few others that are worth testing out.

The First Temper Upgrade in the Skill Tree

4Temper

Get More Temperance Charges

While the last entry gives you more options when it comes to Temperance, theTemperupgrade will give you an additional charge of Temperance. The game will naturally give you one charge, though you’ll be limited to just one for each Shrine visit unless you get this upgrade.

Bosses throughout the game have huge HP pools, and fighting them won’t be quick. You’ll often find your Temperance boosts fading out before a boss even reaches half health, and a second charge can help you keep your edge for the entire fight. Building on the last entry, this second charge can also give you the option of using each Temperance on both of your equipped weapons in a single fight if you wish.

An Endurance Upgrade in the Skill Tree

3Endurance

Dodge For Longer

Upgrading all of your base stats is done within this main skill tree.Depending on the weaponpath you’re working on, you’ll usually get stat upgrades for stats that scale best for the weapon you’re using. While that’s usually the case for Strength, Agility, Feathering, and Magic; Vitality and Stamina will appear randomly throughout every tree.

Endurancedoes appear in every tree, but it is by far the least common stat upgrade you can find. Boss combos can be very long, and you’ll need a large endurance pool to either keep on dodging or quickly pivot into a counterattack. There are also only a few ways to boost your stamina recovery, so having a large pool to start with will help you stay prepared for anything.

The Skyborn Call II Skill in the Skill Tree

2Skyborn Call II

Cast Bigger Spells

Skyborn Might is used for all your weapon skills and spells, and no matter your build, you’ll end up using one or the other.Skyborn Call IIraises your maximum charges to four, which will also let you cast just about every spell found in the first two regions of the game.

Even if you don’t use spells, having four charges can let you spam your strongest weapon disciplines without much fear or retaliation. While Skyborn Might charges aren’t used with every weapon ability, they are used to boost weapon abilities and make them much more effective, so it’s always a good option to have more charges to pull from than fewer.

The Energetic Skill in the Skill Tree

1Energetic

Always Have More Stamina

You’ll be dodging a lot ofWuchang: Fallen Feathers, andEnergeticrecovers some of your stamina upon getting Skyborn Might, which happens every time you dodge. While you don’t recover the full amount, this skill will be one of your biggest ways of getting stamina back in combat. There are a lot of weapon upgrades that also give you Skyborn Might by landing combos, so this upgrade makes sure you’re getting stamina back no matter what you’re doing.

Even some of the earlier bosses in the second region of the game will start moving a lot faster, giving very small windows to counterattack. This skill is practically a necessity as it will make sure you at least have some stamina left after a patch of dodges to get an attack or two off in those small windows and keep you in the fight.
