Based on the trilogy of novelsWool, Shift,andDustby Hugh Howey,Silotook the nation by storm when it releasedseason one of its dystopian dramain May 2023 onApple TV +. Now, even though season 3 of the series hasn’t even been released yet, the fourth installment has already received some very good news from the show’s cinematographer.
Created by Graham Yost, best-known for the filmsSpeed,Broken Arrow, andHard Rain,and the TV seriesJustified, Silotransported viewers into its dystopian future setting where a community of 10,000 residents exists in a giant underground silo comprising 144 levels, bound by regulations they believed are meant to protect them. The series stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, an engineer who becomes entangled inSilo’s shandy past and even shadier present, as well as Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, and many more familiar TV and movie stars.Filming ofSiloseason threebegan in October 2024, which took place at Hoddesdon Studios outside of London, and now that production has wrapped on its upcoming season 3, talks have turned to when filming for season 4 will take place. Thankfully, we have the answer to that eagerly anticipated question.
Season 4 of Silo Is About To Start Filming, According to the Show’s Cinematographer
In an interview withScreenRant,Siloseason 2’s cinematographer Baz Irvine established that the series is “about to start” filming for season 4.Irvine confirmed that season 3 ofSilohad just finished filming but, apparently not wanting to waste any time, the team decided to jump straight into shooting its season final. “Three is actually just finished. But, interestingly, I met the director, Michael Dinner, who I worked with on season two, he made the decision to stay on and do season three and season four, and they’re actually about to start season four,” revealed Irvine.
Although Irvine stated that he didn’t go back toSilofor season 3, he revealed that season 2 was a lot of work and a lot of responsibility being the Director of Photography. Due to COVID, the actors’ strike, andthe writers’ strike,his time on the show was “already a really long commitment”, which ended up with him being there for 15 months instead of nine months.
“Also, a lot of that time is spent in subterranean sets, going slightly crazy due to lack of sunlight. I think I had the scurvy, or one of the old-fashioned diseases. I think, when you do a stint like that, you have to question if you’re the right person for the project to go forward next time. And I think Silo is a great example of a show where it probably does actually benefit [to have] a new set of eyes and a new DOP come in, just to mark the difference and variation you need from season to season to make a show progress. That was my rationale, and also, I wanted to experience some other things.”
Many fans of the series will be beyond excited to finally get back to Silo after its cliffhanger ending in season 2 and since thesci-fi serieswill, sadly, have only one more season to finish its captivating story, this will be its big chance to tie up all loose ends and give viewers exactly what they want. It looks as thoughSilomight adapt the events from bothShiftandDustin Season 3, leaving its season 4 finale from the final book.
Although unconfirmed at the moment, Season 3 ofSilocould release towards the start of 2026, based on previous production timelines. For fans who might want to recap on the show’s previous season,Siloseason 2 is exclusively available to watch on Apple TV+.
