EA and Respawn announced that the popular battle royale shooterApex Legendsis coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 5 with improved visuals and performance compared to its Switch 1 counterpart. This unexpected announcement was made during the July 31st Nintendo Direct, which showed gameplay ofApex Legendsrunning on Nintendo Switch 2.
Apex Legendsis well into its sixth year of operations with Season 26: Showdown looming on the horizon. There have been many changes over the years, and Season 26 may bring some of the game’s biggest changes yet.Apex LegendsSeason 26 will introduce the new Wildcard game modeas a permanent addition to the game, and there will be new weapon and legend meta changes and adjustments. Season 26 will launch on August 5, and the seasonal update will be accompanied by the release of the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 version.

A brief 45-second trailer forApex Legendswas released at the recent Nintendo Direct to showcase the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The Switch 2 version will have all the features that fans have come to expect fromApex Legends, including the Battle Royale and limited-time modes. The trailer also confirmed the Battle Royale and Mixtape modes will have “improved resolution and smoother performance,” implying 60 FPS support. However, exact performance metrics for the Switch 2 version will likely be confirmed soon. What’s more, Respawn confirmed that players who log intoApex Legendson Switch 1or Switch 2 before September 16 will receive the Legendary Pathfinder skin, “P.A.T.H.”
Apex Legends is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 Alongside Season 26: Showdown Update on August 5
Shortly after the trailer’s release, Respawn shared a deep-dive video onTwitterto highlight the new Wildcard mode, which supports30-player lobbies inApex Legends. Wildcard offers faster gameplay, loot explosions, and more chances to get back into the action. Wildcard is one of the main highlights of Season 26 alongside Caustic and Bangalore buffs and new Ranked changes forApex Legends, which Switch 2 players will be able to experience as well. Patch notes detailing what’s changing and being added in Apex Legends Season 26 will be revealed soon.
Ahead of Season 26, Respawn rolled outa temporary matchmaking change for Ranked inApex Legendsthat further limits the matches that Masters and Predator players can join. The change was implemented in a matchmaking test across all regions and platforms with the purpose of “improving the skill distribution across Ranked matches.” Respawn noted that this change was highly requested among players, since lower-ranked squads have complained of uneven skill distribution inApex Legendslobbies in recent months.
