A new patch has been released forAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, largely addressing some issues with the title on the recently released Nintendo Switch. Since its release in 2020,Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas consistently ranked among the most popular games for the Switch, and now, the title is finding new life on Nintendo’s newest hybrid console.
Prior to the console’s release, Nintendo confirmed thatAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsdata could be transferred to the Switch 2, causing many to breathe a sigh of relief. Countless players have put hundreds and even thousands of hours into terraforming and decorating their islands, and while island data can be safely ported to the new system, the original Switch will not have access to the data once the transfer is complete. While this has disappointed some fans, others are simply eager to see how the beloved title looks with improved hardware, with the developers already adding some extra polish to help improve the player experience.
On June 18, Nintendo rolled out a new update forAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, and while it may not be the biggest, it brings some useful fixes and adjustments to the cozy title. The main purpose of the patch is to fix an issue for Switch 2 players, as some reported that the game wouldn’t progress when attempting to change the door variation while chatting about a resident’s home exterior while speaking with Tom Nook at Resident Services. Additionally, the update fixes an issue in which newly crafted fencing wouldn’t appear in a player’s inventory if a remade version of the same fence was already in their possession. This latest patch follows the latestAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsupdate in May, which improved multiplayer compatibility between the Switch and Switch 2.
Earlier this year,Nintendo provided a sales updateof its best-selling Switch games, withMario Kart 8holding onto first place with over 67 million units sold as of February.Animal Crossing: New Horizonscame in second, with 46 million units sold, whileSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatetook the bronze medal at 35 million copies. Incredibly, the recently releasedMario Kart Worldfor the Switch 2 has already sold over 860,000 copies in the US alone.
While players are still flocking toNew Horizons, many are wonderingwhen the nextAnimal Crossinggame will be released. The franchise was absent from the dedicated Nintendo Switch Direct in April, but many have pointed to past releases to gain an idea of when a new entry may be on the way. Historically, Nintendo has waited at least a year after a new console launch to release a fresh mainline entry.
