Amazon’s upcomingMass EffectTV show will share the same production team behind the acclaimedFalloutseries, which shines a positive development outlook on BioWare’s popular gaming franchise adaptation when it eventually hits the small screen. Set in the distant future,Mass Effecthas been around since 2007 and follows the story of soldier Commander Shepard in a time where humanity and several alien civilizations have colonized the galaxy using technology left behind by advanced precursor civilizations.
Although there hasn’t been much information regarding its cast or storylines, the series isofficially in development at Amazon MGM Studios with industry veteran Doug Jung steering the ship. If Jung’s name sounds somewhat familiar, that’s likely because he is known for writing the screenplay for the 2016 filmStar Trek Beyond,as well asMindhunter,The Cloverfield Paradox, andBig Love.In recent years, Jung also wrote the screenplay for the science fiction thrillerGod Particlein 2017, which was produced by J.J. Abrams, Lindsey Weber, and Tommy Harper. Even though anofficialMass Effectcast has yet to be announced, many favorite casting choices include Stephen Amell as Commander Shepard, Emily Blunt, and, of course, Pedro Pascal. Now, it seems as though Amazon is putting some serious grinding work into theMass EffectTV series and bringingFallout’s production team into the writers' room.
Fallout’s Production Team Steps Onboard Amazon’s Mass Effect TV Series
In November of last year,Amazon confirmed that aMass EffectTV adaptation was officially going ahead, withFast & Furious 9writer Daniel Casey set to pen the series, with former Marvel Television producer Karim Zreik serving as an executive producer under Cedar Tree Productions. However, only recently, fans noticed some interesting details from Casey’s Instagram post from a post around the same time, which revealed that a number of the production team from theFalloutTV series are also going to be working on theMass Effectshow.
“I’m working on a Mass Effect show for Amazon. We’re greenlit to start our writer’s room at the top of 2025. Doing this right is and has been top priority for nearly two years now (though we paused for the strike last year)”, said Casey. “We have a great pilot script and series outline, the team that Amazon has in place (same team as #fallout including the fantastic @scottfarris) is incredible. Standby for further updates. This is gonna be the next year/two years of my life. And it’ll be special.”
According toLinkedIn, Scott Farris is currently a senior television executive and creative strategist at Amazon, which seems to suggest that the team behind theMass EffectTV series is doing everything that it can to set the adaptation up for the same incredible success asFallout. But what will really count are the opinions of the lifelong fans of BioWare’s stellar franchise, with many hoping it will see the same triumph andnot fall victim to the same fate as theHaloTV series, where many expressed disappointment and frustration due to the show’s deviation from its source material and character portrayals.
As forFallout, season 2 has already wrapped up and is set to release in December 2025, which is much earlier than most eager fans had expected. If that wasn’t exciting enough for wasteland lovers, season 3 ofFallouthas already been greenlit. Hopefully, in the coming months, more information regarding whoMass Effectwill cast in the TV series will be revealed, and maybe even a release window could be on the horizon, too.
