Elden Ring Nightreigncombines the original game’s challenging yet rewarding combat system with enhanced traversal and procedurally generated roguelike expeditions. While players will quickly get used to many of the structures and locations that can appear throughout the game’s expeditions, certain rare events may elude you for hundreds of expeditions. Many of these events offer great rewards for players choosing to engage with them, though they also come with increased risk.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s world events introduce extra spice to the game’s expeditions by introducing unexpected, and often dangerous, new elements to the map. These can occur at the beginning of the expedition in some cases, but many of them will activate suddenly during your attempt. While some, like the Scale-Bearing Merchant and the Maelstrom, are comparatively common, others are so rare that players might go hundreds of hours without ever seeing them, like the Wandering Mausoleums and Flame of Frenzy.
Certain random events, known as “Raids”, will have Nightlord Bosses from elsewhere in the game (and also the Fell Omen) showing up mid-expedition to cause trouble for you and your team. These havebeen explained intheir own articles.
Flame of Frenzy
This event begins when a huge “eye” of frenzy appears above a broken tower somewhere on the map, with numerous frenzied villagers channeling it. The eye will cause constant Frenzy Buildup while present on all players in its line of sight. (AOE is interrupted by solid terrain between the player and the eye.)
To clear this event, every Frenzied villager in the vicinity of the tower must be taken out, causing the eye to vanish and drop a Dormant Power. This Dormant Power seems to always offer Frenzy Weapons, like the Frenzied Flame Seal or Vyke’s Warspear, making it especially valuable when going up against Equilibrious Beast.
Meteor Strike
When a meteor strikes, a red marker will appear on the map to indicate its location. Players should head to the marked spot to find a Fallingstar Beast Boss. This boss also appears in the Crater during the Shifting Earth event, and this one fights identically to the one found there, using gravity attacks and charging at players head-first. You can guarantee a stagger by getting it to charge into the pillars it creates after briefly inverting gravity, making the fight quite a bit easier.
Like most bosses, the Fallingstar Beast will drop a Dormant Power when defeated. This Dormant Power will always be Epic Rarity, making the Meteor well worth investigating if it shows up during your expedition, especially if you haven’t got an Epic Rarity weapon yet.
Wandering Mausoleum
Wandering Mausoleums, returning from the base game, now serve a slightly different purpose. Marked on the map when they appear, Wandering Mausoleums must be climbed to reach the tomb within. Once you reach the tomb, they allow you to duplicate any weapon in your possession. This makes them excellent for enabling dual wielding, creating extra copies of a powerful weapon to share with your team, and so on.
It’s worth noting thatthe same weapon duplicating functionality can also be found in the Shifting Earth Event: Noklateo, the Shrouded City, though it’s hidden away in an easily missed side path.
Scale-Bearing Merchant
The Scale-Bearing Merchant is a bit more common than some events on this list, marked on the map by an icon of a hooded figure and offering several deals to each player. Each deal can be useful, but also comes with some sort of trade-off, so when meeting the Scale-Bearing Merchant, it’s important to consider your choice carefully. Daring players can also attack the Merchant, which willcause it to transform into the Equilibrious Beast and begin a boss fight.Defeating it will make it drop a Dormant Power and some runes, so it can be worthwhile if you’re feeling up to the challenge. You can begin the fight after taking a deal, too, if you want to take advantage of both.
A variation of this event can occur as an invasion called “Curse of the Demon”, where the Merchant will spawn and place a debuff on the entire party, reducing their maximum health. Players must seek out the Merchant and pay a fee of 15000 Runes (Day 1) or 30000 Runes (Day 2) to remove the debuff and replace it with a unique buff. Luckily, the merchant then offers a new deal without taking the usual fee. As always, attacking the Merchant will cause it to transform, and defeating the Merchant will also remove the debuff.
Night Horde
The Night Horde is one of the more dangerous events that can trigger during an expedition, heralded by a cloud of black-purple smoke swirling in the sky. If you approach this cloud, a group of powerful enemies (either golem archers or a horde of fingercreepers) will spawn and attack. Defeating the entire horde will reward all players with “Favor of the Night”,a buff that raises Ultimate Art Gauge charging speed for the rest of the expedition. The extra runes from taking out a group of tough opponents are also helpful.
If you’d rather not deal with the newly arriving foes, you can also simply run away from them, as they will not follow you very far from their spawn location. This means you can avoid this event entirely if you aren’t prepared for it.
Double Night Boss (The Night Threatens Us Anew)
One event that can completely blindside you is the Double Night Boss. After defeating the Night One or Night Two boss, there is a chance for all players to receive a full heal (restoring all FP and Flasks, too) before a new boss spawns to replace the first. This does mean that, if you’re able to handle it, you can get an extra Dormant Power and a ton of extra runes, so as long as you keep things together, this event can be a huge boon to your run. Just ensure not to run off into the rain until you’re sure this event hasn’t triggered (if a Site of Grace spawns after the first boss dies, there won’t be a Double Night Boss).
Cataclysm
Another fairly common event, Cataclysms appear as storms swirling over certain locations on the map, empowering the enemies within and causing NPC Nightfarers known as “Condemned” to spawn. While this makes the location much tougher, each Condemned will spawn a Dormant Power on death, which usually offers an epic version of that Nightfarer’s starting weapon with a passive buff and a random Weapon Skill.
The extra loot offered by a Cataclysm makes it a tempting location to visit during a run, especially since epic rarity gear can be obtained from the Condemned. However, the Condemned are also quite dangerous due to their access to the same abilities as the Nightfarers. Try to avoid engaging them alongside the normal enemies at the location whenever possible, and take down any Condemned versions of Ironeye and Recluse first so they can’t pepper you with attacks from a distance while you deal with other threats.
