While they may not be as popular as they used to be, Amiibo figures are still kicking andDonkey Kong Bananzasupports them. There’s even a new DK and Pauline Amiibo figure created specifically forDonkey Kong Bananzawith exclusive functionality, but other Amiibo figures also work with the game.
With an exclusive Amiibo figure and support for all the others, many players are wondering what exactly Amiibo does forDonkey Kong Bananza. The answer is slightly underwhelming — especially if you don’t have aDonkey Kong-specific Amiibo figure — but Amiibo rewards can be surprisingly useful in some sections of the game. Here’s what you get with every Amiibo figure inDonkey Kong Bananza.
How to Use Amiibo in Donkey Kong Bananza
To use Amiibo figures withDonkey Kong Bananza, just press the start button to pause the game. Then, select the Amiibo icon in the bottom row where the settings and co-op features are. The game will then prompt you to scan an Amiibo figure, which you can do by placing one on the thumbstick of the right Joy-Con or the center of a Pro Controller.
If you scan theDonkey Kong and Pauline Amiibospecifically created forDonkey Kong Bananza, you’ll unlock the Diva Dress for Pauline. If you scan anyDonkey KongAmiibo figure, whether that be theBananzaone, theMarioseries figure, or theSmashBros.figure, four golden explosive KONG tiles will spawnon the ground in front of you. These can be thrown or used as weapons to help you clear areas more quickly.
All other Amiibo figures can be scanned inDonkey Kong Bananza, but their effects are much more underwhelming. Scanning a non-DK Amiibo figure will spawn a sphere of a random material on the ground in front of you. It can be stone, glass, or just about anything. It doesn’t give you anything else, but you’re able to use these spheres as thrown weapons or ride them by turf surfing to get around faster.
To summarize, the only real exclusive Amiibo functionality inDonkey Kong Bananzais unlocking the Diva Dress forPaulineand getting easy access to explosive tiles. The Diva Dress for Pauline can actually be unlocked without the Amiibo figure, too, so you’re not truly locked out of anything if you don’t want to buy the toys.
