While all eyes are onAssassin’s Creed Shadows, its ongoing support, and its upcoming DLC, there is plenty of other movement in the franchise. There are plenty ofAssassin’s Creedrumors and leaksout there about future games, including the next main titleAssassin’s Creed Hexe, but one of the most credible and current manifestations isAssassin’s Creed Black Flag 4: Remake. It may seem surprising, but there are two years' worth of credible leaks and rumors related to the game.

It may be Ubisoft’s worst-kept secret, but it is also a very smart decision.Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagremains one of the most popular entries in the franchise, thanks in no small part due to its focus on the Golden Era of Piracy, and a remake of it, done right, is likely to do serious numbers for Ubisoft. All of this is still up in the air, but there’s plenty backing the fact that it is in development and possibly releasing soon.

AC4: Black Flag Remake Rumors Started Two Years Ago

The first report of its existence can be traced back to Kotaku, which reported that anAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagremake was in developmenttwo years ago. It was in the earliest stages at this time, making a 2025 or 2026 release seem viable today, but that’s not it. Kotaku also reported that Ubisoft Singapore was involved in some capacity. It’s worth noting that Ubisoft Singapore has been a support studio for the franchise several times, often focusing on key features likeAssassin’s Creed 3’s naval combat. In other words, the pedigree is there for it to remake the title and do it right.

More Evidence Connects Ubisoft Singapore to AC4: Black Flag Remake

Game development is typically quiet in these early stages, and that’s true here too. The next credible bit of info came about six months later, at the start of 2024. Ubisoft’s lead cinematic designer for Ubisoft Singapore, Isaac Tan, listed an “unannounced Assassin’s Creed project” on LinkedIn. This was spotted by fans, and notably, the profile stated that this project began in 2023. It’s almost too neat in the way it obviously connects to Kotaku’s report, but that only makes it a strongleak forAC4: Black Flagremake’s development. It could be in reference to something else entirely, but that seems less likely.

AC4: Black Flag Remake Release Date Leaks Online

In late 2024, Insider Gaming reported thatAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’s remake would release in November 2025. Not only is Insider Gaming a trustworthy source, but its track record with Ubisoft games specifically is strong. Of course, this could change since nothing was confirmed and internal goalposts move all the time, but it’s helpful that Insider Gaming reported that this was still the goal earlier this year. The outlet reported, at that time, that theAC4remake was well into development at this time.

AC4: Black Flag Leaks - The Dam Busts

Since that report, several more rumors and leaks have all indicated thatAC4: Black Flagis on its way. Jumping on one of various internet trends, Ubisoft used an image ofAC4: Black Flagto joke about unfortunately losing memories. The replies are filled with folks believing this was a tease of the remake.

The latest note comes from Twitter user TheRealZephryss:Ubisoft has updatedAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’s Steam pagewith new versions of gameplay microtrailers. Updates of this nature are uncommon for older games, alongside other updates that took place on June 4 and June 12. Overall, the evidence is mountain high.

Not to mention, the path toAssassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’s release is right there. If it releases in November 2025, fans can expect a reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August. The leaks certainly won’t end before then, but it’ll be interesting to see just how much is learned before Ubisoft pulls back the curtain.
