Abiotic Factor’s Moving Box Entity Teeters Between Creepy and Cute

What is the Moving Box in Abiotic Factor?

The patch notes that accompanied the release ofAbiotic Factor’s Cold Fusion updatestated that a variety of new entities were added to the game, though developer Deep Field made sure not to give all the details about these new creatures away. This is why when the Moving Box randomly appears in players' games, there’s a sense of uncertainty as to what it is and whether it’s friendly.

The Moving Box is a white, sentient box with legs, and it spawns out of nowhere and follows players around. The first encounter with the Moving Box can be confusing, as there’s no clear explanation as to how and why it shows up. This is evident in many players' baffled, and slightly frightened, reactions to the creature upon seeing it for themselves. As with any entity inAbiotic Factor, a player’s first instinct may be to attack the Moving Box, as it may turn hostile when their guard is down. Plus, it doesn’t help that the creature resembles amimicthat could eat people alive.

Surprisingly, the Moving Box actually appears to be pretty harmless. Instead of being a hostile entity, it functions mainly as a mobile inventory that picks up stuff from the ground, and it can help players farm andmanage resources. There are also accounts of Moving Box helping players farm sneaking EXP while out on the field. The entity could have other undiscovered uses and perks, but the current consensus seems to be that it’s like a cute and clingy pet with a creepy design that just hangs out in players' bases.

The Moving Box is a mimic-like entity that spawns randomly and picks up items from the ground. It acts as an unofficial pet companion inAbiotic Factor.

Why Abiotic Factor’s Moving Box Can Be Annoying

As mentioned, the Moving Box follows players around like a cute pet companion, and it can be useful for picking up items that might have been missed. However, thisentity inAbiotic Factorcan be annoying if it spawns at the wrong place and time. It can accidentally block passage through doors and hinder movement in general. It can’t be controlled or be told to stay put, and there has yet to be any information about the possibility of taming it. Plus, due to its random spawning patterns, Moving Box is not a very reliable inventory, as players might not know when and where it will pop up. This can be a problem if there are important items stored inside the entity.

Despite its friendly demeanor, Moving Box could become another annoying NPC that players might not want around in the long run. However, it would be cool ifAbiotic Factorfully leans into Moving Box’s mimic influence and gives it the ability to attack players if it’s mistreated or ignored. It’s not extremely uncommon for games to featureNPCs that don’t forgive playersfor the choices they make, and Moving Box could add toAbiotic Factor’s creep factor even more if it had that type of functionality.
