Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakeshas been trapped on the Nintendo GameCube since 2004, but with GameCube games added to the Expansion Pack tier of Switch Online for Switch 2 owners, there is some hope that it could one day make a comeback.Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakesis a remake of the originalMetal Gear Solidgame. It essentially remade theMetal Gear Solidexperience to be more likeMetal Gear Solid 2while improving the visuals and making the cutscenes more over-the-top and action-packed.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakesearned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release in 2004, though there are some fans that don’t like the changes made to the soundtrack and story, particularlyhow Otacon is presentedas more clumsy and silly. Others felt as thoughTwin SnakesintegratingMGS2mechanics made the game too easy. Regardless, it’s a shame thatThe Twin Snakesremains trapped on the Nintendo GameCube, and while fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, there is at least a little more hope now that it could one day be playable on a modern platform.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakeswas developed by the now-defunct Silicon Knights in collaboration with Konami. The rights to the game are a little messy and unclear, but afterGoldenEye 007made its way to Nintendo Switch Online despite its complicated rights issues, anything is possible. I don’t expect to seeThe Twin Snakesmade a part of any upcomingMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection, but I think that there is a non-zero chance the game could one day be featured through theSwitch Online + Expansion Pack on the Switch 2. We’ve already seen other third-party games, likeSoulcalibur 2, and whileThe Twin Snakesis a more complex beast, there’s at least a chance now that it could make a comeback.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes Has Been Trapped on the GameCube Since 2004
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakesisn’t the onlyMGSgame trapped on older hardware.Metal Gear Solid: Portable Opsis only on the PSP, whileMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriotsremains trapped on the PS3. Konami hasn’t announced any plans to bring thoseMetal Gear Solidgames to modern platforms, but one has to imagine thatMaster Collection Vol. 2will feature at least some of them.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2still has yet to be fully revealed, but leaks have suggested that it will featureMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walker(a PSP game that was eventually ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 through theHD Collection),Metal Gear Solid 4, andMetal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. WithThe Phantom Painalready playable on modern platforms, it’s safe to say many fans would prefer Konami to focus on including one of theMGSgames trapped on older hardware, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
