Patapon 1+2 Replayis now out on PC and select consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. This release marks the franchise’s debut on non-PlayStationplatforms.
Developed by Tokyo-based Pyramid and produced bySony’s now-defunct Japan Studio, the originalPataponlaunched as a PlayStation Portable exclusive in 2007. It was met with largely favorable reviews, driven by its unique gameplay loop combining strategy with classic rhythm game elements. Its sequel and threequel were released in 2008 and 2011, respectively, also as PSP exclusives. During the late March 2025 Nintendo Direct, a remastered collection of the first two entries calledPatapon 1+2 Replaywas announced. While the IP is owned by Sony, the remasters were unveiled by Bandai Namco, with Japanese studio SAS Co. confirmed as the lead developer on the project.
Three and a half months later,Patapon 1+2 Replayis now available for purchase, having launched for the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 11. ThePataponremastersare priced at $29.99 across every platform. The two PSP classics take between 30 and 70 hours to complete combined, depending on one’s playstyle. This release is technically the secondPataponremaster project, following a separate version of the original game that was released for the PS4 in 2017.
Where to Buy Patapon 1+2 Replay
While the 2025 remasters aim to deliver an authenticPataponexperience, they also introduced a few novelties and quality-of-life improvements. Difficulty settings are now part of the package, offering players a choice between Easy, Normal, and Hard presets. Some extra UI options have also been introduced, with the remasters also offering adjustable button press timing. Assuming this release sells well enough, a remaster ofPatapon 3may also be on the table in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, long-time series fans might also want to keep an eye onRatatan,touted as a spiritual successor toPatapon, which is scheduled to launch in early access on July 25.
Multiple PlayStation IPs Went Multi-Platform in 2025
Pataponis the second classic PlayStation IP to go multi-platform via a remaster in 2025. The first wasFreedom Wars, whose modernized version debuted in early January and was coincidentally also published by Bandai Namco.
The Japanese gaming giant is preparing to bring at least one more classic PlayStation IP to multiple platforms soon, having recently announcedEverybody’s Golf: Hot Shotsfor the Switch, PS5, and PC. The latest entry in the arcade golf series does not yet have a firm release date, though Bandai Namco has confirmed it is targeting a 2025 launch. With the year more than halfway through and no delays announced, it’s plausible thatEverybody’s Golf: Hot Shotsis eyeing a holiday season release.
